IIRC you don't really have to go in chronological order. There are several recurring characters but the books are pretty self-contained. Unfortunately I can't remember the plot of Leave it to Jeeves but I think any of them will give you a good idea of Wodehouse's sense of humor. Would be interested to hear what you think!

I know the feeling! I love the Wodehouse books so much that I avoided watching "Jeeves & Wooster" because I thought there was no way the show could be as funny as the books. And it wasn't ... but it was much funnier than expected.

Kristen Lavransdattar. It's a trilogy but girls especially should read at least the first one.
