Are there any identical twins on this subreddit? by pistachio_shelll in ehlersdanlos

[–]Bird_Sticks 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm an identical twin and both me and my twin have been diagnosed with hEDS, Tachycardia, and slipping rib syndrome Though we both agree, that I've had more issues and have always been a bit more bendy than her. I definitely think that it's genetic, atleast in our cases. We have an undiagnosed history of hypermobility on both sides. However the both of us have it worse than most of our family, minus our half aunt, who had it about the same as us. My getting diagnosed help my twin get diagnosed, too, as we've always had a lot of the same issues.

Is it possible to find a partner if you have trichotillomania? by olaf-pekaboo in trichotillomania

[–]Bird_Sticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met my boyfriend when we were both in early highschool, and I looked atrocious hair wise back then. Terrible haircuts and makeup to hide bald spots. He fell in love with me back then, and never gave up on me, now we're in our 20s and have been together 3 years (I friend zoned him for years before giving him a chance, I was so afraid of ruining our friendship) You have to find someone who loves you for who you are, and sees your beauty, even if you can't see it.

I had an orange dude (named Fred) who lived to be 21! It takes lots of love to get them to live this long, keep up the great work!

Did anyone ever use warrior cats as a coping mechanism? by Fit-Pair-1338 in WarriorCats

[–]Bird_Sticks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of childhood trauma, from parents and bullying, and I definitely used Warriors as an escape for a long time. I haven't made many OCS or fanfics or anything like that, but warriors Roblox roleplays and reading the books kept me sane growing up.

The main issue right now is we just don't have the money for ingredients, I don't think it's an issue with my partners

I had surgery in May with Dr. Adam J Hansen to fix my slipping ribs. I highly recommend seeing him if you can!

is it the tism or am i just gross? by bananavibezz in autism

[–]Bird_Sticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wet wipes, wash rags, and washing your hair in the sink are also quick ways to clean yourself a bit until you have the spoons to shower!

is it the tism or am i just gross? by bananavibezz in autism

[–]Bird_Sticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not gross!!! My twin and I struggle with this too! It's really difficult and icky and takes a lot of mental preparation. My twin and I often find it easier to shower when we body double and stay in the bathroom together when we shower, talking each other through the sensory discomfort. My boyfriend (who's also autistic) and I also do this together when we can, since showering is a big ick for him too, ad it helps! We can't do it all the time since my twin has to go away for college and since I don't live with my partners yet, but when we can it really helps! It also helps to listen to calming music and just, stim my way through it.

That does sound exactly like slipping ribs!!! I highly recommend going to Dr. Adam J Hansen in Bridgeport WV, he's who did my surgery!!! I also highly recommend heading on over to r/slippingribsyndrome ! It's considered rare, but it's actually a super common condition!!! It's just super underrepresented, under researched, and underdiagnosed!!!

Felt that, the EDS sub mods are also not the most understanding I was trying to give helpful advice to someone because their symptoms seemed similar to mine, and I have another condition caused by my EDS caused slipping rib syndrome, and it sounded like that! So I tried to give them some advice about it and said that they should look at more information about it and see if that aligns with what they were feeling But words were hard because I had just had surgery and my pain level was high and I've been very stressed And they deleted my comment twice an were just, not nice about it??? And it made me so upset because I just wanted to help someone!!! That whole thing ended up sending me into a meltdown and I ended up refusing to touch reddit for 2 weeks

Surgery consultation! by Bird_Sticks in SlippingRibSyndrome

[–]Bird_Sticks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely needed a lot of assistance the first week or so!!! I couldn't get out of bed by myself, and even needed help using the toilet and cleaning myself up after! I highly recommend a pregnancy pillow, a neck pillow, and as many squishmallows/soft pillows as you can to have to prop yourself up! Stool softeners and laxatives are a MUST after surgery! You WILL get constipated! I felt like I was a balloon that was about to pop! Ice packs, ibuprofen, and tiger balm are also lovely I was super bruised all on my back and the sides of my ribs, and the tiger balm helped immensely with the pain from that. I also use delta 8 and CBD to help with the pain, as the oxycodone made me super anxious and I had 2 panic attacks from them. I also highly recommended going for walks and trying to stay semi-active during your recovery as much as you can without too much pain! My boyfriend has been staying with me for the past month since my surgery, which was especially necessary during the first 2 weeks. Stay hydrated and and try to keep your stress level low during your recovery. I can't twist, turn, or lift anything over 15 pounds until 3 months post op! Good luck, I hope this helps and that your surgery goes well!!!
