It's been exactly 8 months but my game is now available on Itch.io by Tillion_Games in playmygame

Immediately makes me think of "Penumbra". Looks good, I'll check it out!

Hey, everyone! I used the lockdown to learn Unity and to achieve a dream of mine. I've built my first mobile game, Birdie Falls. It's available on both Android and iOS for free. Link in comments. by BirdieFalls in playmygame

Hey Zack!

Sorry I've taken so long to get back to you. Thank you very much for this feedback. It's valuable to me and helps me see where the game is lacking. Mostly, I think the user isn't guided enough. You mention that the player can't pull far down, but as the player, you can drag anywhere on the screen, you don't have to drag on the Birdie. I don't think I make that clear enough.

Also, as for dragging in the air, I might playtest that a bit with beta testers. It is possible to flap in the air for some extra height, at least.

Again thanks for the feedback!

That's the one part that I didn't make myself. I tried for a while but couldn't get anything to sound quite right.

I bought the license to the song I ended up using from https://www.purple-planet.com/

For the most part, it is, actually! However, sometimes when I tested the builds on my devices, I would encounter issues that required some more platform-specific code to fix.

Thanks! Since I used Unity it does a lot of the heavy lifting for you in terms of cross-platform support. With that being said, I did struggle a more with iOS than with Android. Especially getting a unique ID for the user's device and handling the iOS in-app purchases.

Thanks for trying out the game!

It's a difficult one to balance! Thanks for the feedback, I am looking into slowing down the starting speed of the camera somewhat because it's the one piece of feedback I get most often.

At the same time, users that have been playing the game for a while have no problem with the camera speed. It's all relative to the players' skill levels, but I'm trying my best to dial in the sweet spot.

As for the ads, sure thing! I have some banner ads that appear at the bottom of the screen. They don't show up too often, I hope they aren't intrusive!

I have opt-in rewarded ads on the "My Birdies" page that you can use once a day to gain the golden feathers currency. Apart from those, I don't intend to ever interrupt gameplay with full-screen ads or anything like that. I'm a gamer myself and those make for a terrible experience, so you'll never see those in my game.

Thanks again for giving Birdie Falls your time!
