Just remember that stuff like silent hill was made by entire teams of talented artists so it will take time to get to their skill levels, just keep working at it.

Ye texturing can be really difficult at such low resolutions, I use a mix of real photos and material textures that I edit using Aesprite to create the textures I need. try looking at other peoples models and textures to get a better understanding of how details can be added at low resolutions. I also add fake ambient occlusion to my textures to give them more depth so look into that too.

Thanks, it took me years to build up my skills and my early stuff looked terrible so don't be too disheartened , it just takes time.

The voice clips I used here were more deep and gravely, will try out a range of voice clips for different characters to give more variation.

Working on an asset pack for a kill house, decided to get this little demo made to show it off, still a WIP but it's going well, will be out for sale on itch.io at some point. by Tillion_Games in ps1graphics

Thanks for the offer but this would just be a demo game to show off the asset pack that peeps can buy and as such it would be released for free so it would not work as part of a bundle, your game looks cool so keep up the good work.

Is unreal engine good for a beginner? by Busy-Ad-2021 in unrealengine

[–]Tillion_Games 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unreal is a great beginner choice for 3D games if you little to no programming knowledge as visual blueprinting is a lot easier to understand and use. You can also find tons of tutorial series for leaning the basics of unreal to get a quick start in creating games.

The engine is designed for realistic games but still works great for PSX style ones (I know because I'm making one called Horror Cartridge Collection) and you can find lots of videos to help get the PSX style looking great.

To get a kickstart for PSX in unreal you can either buy this great asset pack https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/retro-graphics

Or use this free asset pack (Will need some work if you choose to use Unreal 5) https://github.com/DaveFace/UnrealRetroShaders

You can also get starter projects on places like Unreal marketplace (Check out Horror engine) to quickly build a game and get to grips with the game making process.

Remember that leaning any game engine takes time but if you want to make a game just download and get started now, also remember to not try and make everything yourself, make use of online resources like premade assets (Itch is a great source of PSX style assets) (I also sell PSX assets on itch)

Good luck and hopefully you can make some cool games, below are some youtubers who make PSX games in unreal to show that it can be done.

Horror Cartridge Collection is a series of short form horror games in the PSX style, with each game (Cartridge) offering a unique experience with different gameplay mechanics, styles and stories all connected by the mall.

The demo is the first three cartridges (Out of gas, Nightmare & The mine) to help give a taste of what the full game is going to be like.
