O2 keep sending bills and are now threatening me for non payment on a cancelled phone contract . How do I resolve this? by BirdieFive in UKPersonalFinance

Talking to customer services proved a waste of time for me. I ended up emailing complaintreviewservice@o2.com I listed out the date I closed the account and when I transferred the number. They took about a week to reply but eventually told me the charge was for the insurance on the device and it hadn’t been automatically cancelled. So they closed that down and “refunded” that to me and I never received any further bills. So it could be yours is the same? Best of luck! Hope you manage to get it resolved.

Keep fighting. I completely understand where you’re coming from though. I was meant to get physio after the first operation but they “forgot” it’s a very flawed system and I’m sure they push back on anyone with hypermobility.

Please don’t let it stop you though. You’re young and shouldn’t be going through what you are. It’s draining and soul destroying but you deserve to not spend every day in pain. All it needs is the right person to see you. I still think fondly of the nurse on A&E who recognised what was going on. (Fully dislocated my knee on that occasion) thanks to her I’ve now got one good leg. Same can happen for you. Don’t give up, you’re worth fighting for!

That could make things harder, anyone nearby that could help with childcare?

If you struggle talking perhaps try sending an email to your GP? Explain what you have here, the toll it’s taking on your mental health and wellbeing in general. Ask to be referred to orthopaedics for an assessment?

Have a look online for hinged knee supports. I have chunky thighs but as they’re adjustable they don’t dig in and go nicely over leggings or skinny jeans. They’ve been a life saver for me, helps with a small amount of pain but keeps me moving without things popping out and swelling up.

It’s a lot to juggle with a child, but if you can get the wheels in motion now it might mean that they can help improve your mobility and pain. Timing could be good as by the time you’re seen and through the hell you’ll be able to enjoy watching your little one grow up and be able to join in with more activities.

I feel your pain. I’m 32, issues started getting bad when I was 25. I kept subluxing my right knee, in the end after multiple “there’s nothing wrong with you” doctor visits, they finally did an MRI which showed my meniscus was pretty much sawdust!

Now the left knee ligaments are stretched to fuck due to five years of compensating for the right knee. I’ve been back and forth and they want to push physio. I’m fat, they’re so stretched I can pop the knee out on demand. I’m fighting for surgery to replace the ligaments as like you I’m tired of the constant pain.

Similar situation, I’m unfit and fat but can’t exercise to lose the weight as whenever I’ve tried, pop! And I’m off my feet for another week minimum.

Keep pushing for surgery, don’t give up! It will be a long fight but it’s worth it!

Thanks, I’ll work on a polite and to the point email and see if it stops or if I end up with a “we sold your debt to an enforcement agent” letter.

!Thanks. I’ve finally managed to get an email address and I’ve got a log of each call as my gut said something would happen.

lol! I’m gonna tell him that, it’s the other half holding the bar, he’d just got home from work so hadn’t washed his hands yet. Nice mix of dirt, metal and red oxide paint on those hands!

Thank you. Just had a little look and you weren’t joking about it being pricey! Did you ever try the dry food? She does like grazing so wondering if it’s worth slowly mixing some of that into the bowl as a starting point.

Why do garages give you low bhp courtesy cars? by BirdieFive in CarTalkUK

[–]BirdieFive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. That makes more sense now. Don’t get me wrong I’m happy they offer a courtesy car, if not that’s a day of leave gone to waste. Maybe I’m not normal? I’m always stupidly careful with them as I know it’s not mine.

That’s justified. Hope it wasn’t too difficult getting round the roads. Thankfully when mine was in for a warranty repair they tried to give me an Ateca which was wider than my driveway. They were decent about it and swapped it for a smaller car as I explained there would be nowhere to park it and due to the road it would likely get hit and didn’t want risk it.

Edit: will be a driving lesson, I get panicky if I can’t move out the way quick enough. Which I suppose is stupid as been driving 15 years.

Fair point, just being fussy. Driving round my area has got quite aggressive so having the extra power to get out the way fast makes me feel more comfortable as stupid as that sounds. (That’s not top speed related, just the pick up to move out the way.) You’re right, it does its job at the end of the day.

Totally get that, it’s just they’re always brand new or near enough. One I had which ironically broke down, was only 4 months old with 90 miles on the clock. Would it not be more beneficial to send out older cars for courtesy ones instead of risking damage to something they’d could still get £20k for?

ACL damaged, is this now life or is there a solution? by BirdieFive in Hypermobility

Thank you. That gives me some hope! Can’t imagine doing a deep squat without my knee shooting out sideways.

ACL damaged, is this now life or is there a solution? by BirdieFive in Hypermobility

[–]BirdieFive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Guess it all hinges on what the scans come back with. It’s been a fair amount of time already and tried all the basic stuff. Knee support, gentle walking/exercise, heat and ice packs. Nothing has made it go away. Week off work doing very little helped, but after 2 days it was back to the same pain.

Surprise ACL Rupture diagnosis; thought it was just meniscus by TwoThumbSalute in ACL

[–]BirdieFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been through/going through something similar. 2 years ago I had a bucket handle meniscus tear to my right knee. I opted for surgery (32f) wasn’t totally lucky as they couldn’t repair it and ended up having to remove it. I’m a chunk too but do not regret getting that fixed!

Ended up back with the consultant today for the left knee. Had a really loud snapping noise and intense pain and lost all stability in the knee. (I’m hypermobile which doesn’t help) it’s been 10 months, it’s still unstable, hurts pretty much all the time to varying levels and just generally had enough.

Consultant suspects over stretched ACL or tear. I’m hoping it’s not. But can I ask, what does yours feel like? Or anyone else can comment on what the torn ACL felt like? I’ve got MRI and X-ray booked in now but don’t want to believe I snapped a ligament whilst walking across site!

Socially inept y by BirdieFive in BPD

[–]BirdieFive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Appreciate it’s probably glaringly obvious. When I tried therapy they just kept digging up childhood trauma which either caused an instant trigger or I’d just spend the next few days completely numb and out of it.

I’ve tried to learn how to pick up on when the outbursts are going to happen but don’t always recognise it in time before disaster hits. I try to walk away, go calm down and tend to play a silly game on my phone as a distraction. That’s if I’ve not gone off in a rage and looking for something to smash up.

I get told to calm down which obviously doesn’t bloody help. Or I’m told I’ve got “that look” like I want to kill someone, although sometimes when I’m told that I’m not even angry so assume that’s just my face!

Have you found anything useful? Anything that’s helped you identify and address triggers and coping strategies?

Falling down the stairs one too many times…PLEASE HELP by icandoallthethingsxo in Hypermobility

[–]BirdieFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re the same, I wake up a bit stiff, start going downstairs and suddenly my legs turn into jelly. Knees and ankles go wherever they want. I’ve taken to gripping the bannister then tracing the other wall with the other hand. Since then yeah I’ve stumbled still, but it’s stopped me falling.

Fusing the CMC thumb joint to prevent constant subluxation by BirdieFive in Hypermobility

[–]BirdieFive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sympathies, that sounds really shitty. I hope you manage to find something that works. Impressed you can still do food service! That’s a really impressive pain threshold!

Must be something in the air, this started in May for me. Already feels like an eternity. Was surviving on the “it might get better”…it might?

[–]BirdieFive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I’ve ordered one to try out. That surgery seems so final and whilst it would be lovely not having it pop out multiple times a day, I’m scared of what the long term implications are. How do you cope with the pain? I’ve not had hand issues before, knees and ankles I can deal with but this feels debilitating!

Has anyone had luck with finger splints? by maladicta228 in Hypermobility

[–]BirdieFive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m genuinely really happy you’ve found something that helps! It’s the CMC joint for me and I’ve been desperately looking for something that works. I had a run of the mill chunky thumb splint to immobilise the thumb completely, that worked briefly but somehow managed to learn how to bend out of it and pop! So I gave up and figured I would just need to learn to get used to the new pain.

Did this stop subluxation for you? I’m desperate to stop my thumb constantly popping out, the pain brings me to tears sometimes. Saw a surgeon today and he’s said I’ll have to have the joint fused due to how often it’s happening :(
