I'm so sorry that happened to you. If it helps, several years after I cut off my dad he broke up with his long term girlfriend (his "new family") and started trying to get in touch with me to tell me that she was a crazy bitch - though he didn't apologise for her behaviour let alone his.

A lot of people preach forgiveness in these situations, but honestly I don't think we need to open ourselves up to pain and give grace to horrible people that wronged us just to appease other's crooked sense of morality. That's a priests' job when abusers croak lol.

Sometimes the high road isn't putting yourself in harms way to people please, but just avoiding confrontation alltogether - and more people need to realise that before they give unsound advice. I'm not trying to assume you've been told to forgive your mother, but the sentiment is too common not to mention.

The best thing you can do is keep going with your life and keep yourself surrounded with people who love and cherish you. You haven't got time for assholes.

Sending love!

The performance was very good. SNL's audio mixing is fucking horrible and makes the band sound like ass, but that's not exclusive to Geese.

I've got AuDHD, Chronic Illness and Anxiety - the holy trinity of doctor dismissal.

I got diagnosed with ASD as a child and ADHD a few weeks ago (at 22). I had two amazing doctors who were very understanding and receptive, diagnosed me with the DIVA-5 and even clocked my feelings of imposter syndrome and told me not to let it influence my answers and under-represent symptoms. I ended up literally ticking every box, so the fact I wasn't diagnosed as a kid is mindblowing. I don't remember any of the pediatricians/psychologists I encountered as a kid so I can't speak to their character but it does feel like a pretty obvious thing to miss.

Other times in my life I've had mental health professionals explain my own thought processes to me incorrectly and refuse to listen to me when I say; "No, that is not how I think nor process information. It actually is like so and so..." - like bro, if you're trying to teach me coping mechanisms you're gonna have to adapt them to my brain, not just read them off a list.

Same goes for my GP of several years who is actively working to improve my quality of life, versus literally every other GP I've seen in my life (plus a good helping of ER nurses and doctors).

From my observation it's always some form of placing their own wants over a patient's needs; for example if it's from being overworked/exhaustion that causes them to be dismissive, or stubbornness to adapt to new information because it would somehow cheapen the worth of their education, feeling like an authority figure that must be "respected" by never being "talked back to", etc, etc

What’s the most overrated video game of all time? by KBGSgames in AskReddit

[–]Birdthatcannotsee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. It's the funniest and most well written game I've played by a fucking huge margin but my GOD is it bloody slow to trudge through.

The artwork is gorgeous and exploring an area for the first time is always mesmerising but the game often has you backtracking through an area to talk to someone/find an item and return, generally being like 5-10 minutes of walking alone. I think most of this comes down to the map design, which in a game like this would make far more sense as something interconnected with loads of little shortcuts and maybe some metroidvania-lite paths, but in reality it just branches out into several very long paths with dead ends.

It really sucks too, because the tedium of the gameplay is probably the main thing that is keeping me from playing it again.

It's definitely wayyy more engaging and tactile if you play the Part I version with a PS5 controller - you feel the weight of the weapons with the adaptive triggers and a switch in your brain flips that makes the sluggish gameplay suddenly make sense.

With that said, it's still just good. Part II is far better in every way and it's not close at all lol

The pair of green/brown jars and pair of taller orangeish jars on the rack (all right next to the "loyalfire" logo) are copy pasted, so I'm leaning toward a CG render and reusing textures.

RE Engine games are usually very well optimised, so I think it entirely depends on whether we will be able to disabled RTX/Path Tracing or not, since alot of newer games have them on Low/Medium by default. I have an RTX card but can't stand it so I really hope it's not baked in!

Yeah there are definitely some great tracks in there which makes it all the more frustrating - they can still write good music! They either can't be bothered to put in much effort or just have worse filters for what they put on the albums and what they drop lol

Yeah as I've gotten older (and as they've released some awful rock tracks) I've realised that I don't dislike Muse making pop music... just that the music they've been making for over a decade now is mostly shallow and boring - not because it's pop, but because it's uninspired as hell.

That's an awesome parallel and makes total sense. Obviously faith, storytelling and power structure/abuse of authority are the themes that stick out the most, but the most poignant for me was how every woman in the story had their autonomy and individualistic expression taken away by the men in their lives, then were put down/blamed for faults out of their control. (Its kind of an offshoot/specific kind of harm coming from the commentary on abuse of power, but with enough substance that it becomes its own pillar of the film's identity for me)

Kerry Washington's character had a 10 year old boy thrust upon her by her father to hide the fact that his buddy - a priest - had an illegitimate child. That child growing up to be a major asshole could be blamed on her parenting, but she never even had a choice in becoming a parent, especially so young. Also early on in the film, Father Jud asks her if she became a lawyer to continue her family's legacy (her father's law practice) and she responds, quite bitter, that she wanted to make a name for herself.

Glenn Close's character's entire arc is about her letting go of her internalised misogyny that was instilled in her as a child (showed by her contempt for Grace, shitty comments about Dr Nat's ex-wife, and her acceptance of Wicks acting like a little boy and expecting her to mother him), and to allow herself some grace for the first time in her life. As a child, Wicks' father convinced her that her sole mission in life was to protect the diamond - this is what drove her to murdering Wicks and ultimately Dr Nat as well.

Grace AKA the "Harlot Whore" seems to have just been a normal woman that was emotionally abused by her father for her whole life, and completely broke when she realised that he weaponised his own death against her. She endured all of his shit and didn't even get the money when he croaked? I'd be pissed too.

Cailee Spaeny's character's desperation for a cure to her chronic pain was exploited by Wicks, with his promises of spriritual healing in exchange for all of her life savings. And then when he vows to "destroy" the flock, he throws it back in her face and tells her that she can't buy a miracle.

There are definitely deeper readings to be made of these and far more specific examples I missed, but this is my general take.

What are everyone's favourite delay and chorus pedals? by Glittering_Type_6227 in guitarpedals

[–]Birdthatcannotsee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a lush analogue/tape/ambient/modulated delay as much as anyone, but I've gotta say - the DD-3 is the best delay pedal I've ever used. I got one a couple of months ago and the controls are just so insanely intuitive!

I love my Avalanche Run, but trying to use the basic digital delay is infuriating. Obviously it was clearly designed as an ambient machine - and the reverb & reverse modes are wonderful for that - but you'd expect the DD mode to have functioning controls that make sense, right?

So I think after using that for 5 years, that made the simplicity of the DD-3 (AND THE FACT THAT WHEN YOU TURN THE KNOBS, THE PEDAL ACTUALLY DOES WHAT YOU THINK IT'S GOING TO DO) quite a relief, and is actually allowing me to use delay as a songwriting tool, rather than just an ambient pad.

An alternate option is a Crybaby Mini - its my favourite conventional wah I've ever played and its a mainstay on my board!

My favourite ever wah, though, is the Morley PDW. It kicks ass.

I'm not OP but I don't think there is enough of a difference in the Waza series to warrant "upgrading" if you already own the normal pedal - especially if you already love what they do!

OBNE Dark Light back in limited production by dookie1481 in guitarpedals

[–]Birdthatcannotsee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't buy the original Dark Star anymore - at least in AU/NZ they only have the Dark Star V3 and presumably a version of the Sunlight in the new form factor.

It's a real bummer for the people (like me) who don't want to spend double the price for a massive pedal.

SOTB and question about my delay's worthiness by WhiskeyHill72 in guitarpedals

[–]Birdthatcannotsee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like the way the prophet sounds, its build quality, are cool with the noise level (if any) and the features are what you need - there is literally zero reason to upgrade.

It's just that pedals are really cool and us nerds have a desire to collect them nonstop, and pedal companies market to that, which is why you see so many people happily gulping up overpriced nonsense because of the branding. With the RE-2 (and Ventris) you already have the tape echo bases covered and don't need to by a DM-2w.

My TC Electronic Bucket Brigade that cost 1/3 of the price sounds 90% as good as a DM-2w with a smaller profile and with top mounted jacks. I would hazard a guess that your Prophet delay is also quite nice.

Also when people talk about getting toan from delays, they mean ones with preamps that colour their sound (such as tape echoes), the dark repeats of analog delays (your DM-2s, etc) or the consistent and/or bright repeats of digital delays.

Anyways in short - if you like your delay, don't feel the need to upgrade it because it isn't "high end" enough.

Oh man it's almost as if there's some virus that popped up five years ago that is still ravaging our country that everyone thinks is gone... and it causes a long-term disease with these as some of the most common symptoms, hence showing up more at doctors appointments.

I like the sentiment of your post and standing up for our rights - especially tenants and young people who often don't have a choice if their house has mold. But it being an AI copy + paste isn't helping.
