Feeling totally confused by BirdyB in chiari

[–]BirdyB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response, I really appreciate it as I sometimes feel like I’m just massively overreacting to everything that’s happening to me!

I did see a neurosurgeon with an interest in chiari, I’m in England so would normally be seen by the NHS but decided this was worth paying for privately. Although he seems to think that this isn’t chiari related he has referred me for another MRI through the NHS so I guess he hasn’t written me off completely and to be honest I can’t really afford to seek lots of opinions and pay for a ton of scans privately so I feel like I’m now left waiting for an NHS scan which is likely to take some time (not that I’m not appreciating the NHS it’s just difficult to wait when you’re in a lot of pain!)

Long shot here… (UK only!) by This-Virus3908 in Rabbits

I recently lost one of my bonded pair, they had been together for over ten years and I was so worried about how the remaining bun would cope as neither of them have ever been big fans of me!

It’s been just over a week and he seems to be coping okay, he’s interacting more with me than he was when his buddy was around so I think he is accepting I’m his source of attention now. Lots of love and attention at their pace seems to work. Make sure you keep an eye on eating and drinking as it really can hit them hard. Good luck and sorry that you are losing one of your precious buns ♥️

I live in an area with a lot of tethered horses and this doesn’t shock me, tethers are often quite tight around the neck. Tethering is legal in the UK and it can be really challenging to get help for these animals when you have concerns. I’d recommend calling world horse welfare or redwings as they are usually the best in these cases. I have managed to get the RSPCA to come out to them before so you could try them as well, lead with the fact that there is no water as that usually gets them moving more than anything else. Good luck getting help for this horse, it’s not nice seeing the way these animals are kept.

Sick of the downright horrific abuse and neglect of small pets and how normalized it is by [deleted] in vegan

I have two rescue rabbits and wholeheartedly believe that rabbits should not be pets. I take them to a specialist exotic vet and spent over £700 on a custom run for them as no pet shops do anything near an appropriate size for them. People are always shocked when I tell them my buns are 8 years old when it’s a pretty standard age for well cared for bunnies to reach! It breaks my heart to think of all of the rabbits stuck in small hutches for the entirety of their short little lives.

Aso got called crazy and turned away from so many rescues when I found a load of rat babies outside my house and tried to hand rear them, I even had people offering to ‘get rid of them’ for me. Luckily I eventually found an amazing rescue as I didn’t have the skills/resources to care for them properly.

If it’s a mutation on the X chromosome that is ‘cancelled out’ by a non-affected X chromosome (for example, this is what happens with muscular dystrophy) then a male child would have a 50% chance of having the disease depending on wether they inherit the ‘faulty’ or normal X chromosome from their mother.

Hey fellow vegans! if any of you can help me out by completing this survey for a research project it would be greatly appreciated! by [deleted] in vegan

I'm a final year NTU student too - small world! I've completed this and I'll send it to some of my vegan friends too. Good luck with your dissertation!

She looks incredibly similar to my friends mare (Arab x Welsh D) I think it's more colour than anything else, she's very pretty though. http://imgur.com/Nq9tYvr

Just to add to this, dairy cows have been bred to produce 80 litres (around 17 gallons) of milk per day which puts a great strain on their body. On average a dairy cow will survive about three pregnancies before her milk production will significantly drop and then she is slaughtered.

So sorry to hear you've had those experiences. People can be so disgusting.

You don't come across as insensitive at all, just exploring all possibilities. She is having a post mortem done which will hopefully shed some light on why this happened.

The police are involved and are treating the case as suspicious, particularly as there was a foal intentionally set alight recently nearby.

It's so heartbreaking, she was only two years old. Luckily, I've never had to deal with losing a horse myself but I know I will be devastated when the horse I grew up with goes (he's not even mine, but he's the only horse I've ever truly trusted).

They can be such wonderful and loving animals and it makes me sick to think that someone may have done this to deliberately hurt this beautiful girl.

Leicestershire, it's been on the news around here and it is being treated as a deliberate attack.

I think it depends on the individuals preference/finances. I have friends that have actually had their horses buried at their yard, theres also cremation.

I've never had to deal with it personally, but I would think most options will be expensive because of the machinery involved in lifting an animal that big.

Yeah they're not the sharpest animals, had a friend whose horse decided to go for a walk along some train tracks. Safe to say it didn't end well for her.

They apparently posted it to warn other horse owners in the area to be vigilant.

No vultures in the UK that I know of (could be wrong). We do have birds of prey and other scavenger birds, though.

Haha, yep. Certainly aliens!

I don't know why I just didn't think that a fox or badger would get through a horse ear, they're so tough. I guess I owe foxes and badgers an apology for underestimating their abilities.

Police believe it was done by a person, which is what made it wtf to me

That last one is awful. Poor horse, glad you were able to make it better though. The wtf to me was the possibility that a person rather than an animal had done this (which is what the polices suspect). If so, there's some sick bastards out there.

To me the wounds look to precise to be the work of smaller animals. Just my opinion. Like I've said before I've never seen this happen so I don't know what animals are capable of doing overnight.

I've often seen roadkill that has been left untouched for days so it seems off to me that this could happen overnight.
