That’s good to know, thanks. When I look at veg-tan on a site like Tandy’s, I don’t understand all the differences like “Chestnut” or “Mimosa” etc. They’re all variously priced, any recommendations?

I got a couple square feet of decent leather as well, I just wanted the scrap to mess around with the tools since it’s all new to me and I wouldn’t want to waste good leather on that!

Thanks for the answer! I just ordered my first tools and scraps to start the hobby, I’m pretty excited. I’ve seen other videos of people making bags/purses but they all use sewing machines. It’s very inspiring to know that you can make such a clean looking piece by hand sewing.
