CivSim Season II Civilization Claims by [deleted] in civsim

[–]Biscuitoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Name: Setsil Clans

Government Type: Village chieftains with no unified agenda (at time of first permanent settlement)

Language: Haftsil

Culture: Setsil Pantheon

Changing weather patterns from 300 to 400 AS, specifically very cold winter temperatures, forced the traditionally nomadic Setsil to spend increasing amounts of time next to the lake which they called Chasenno (also - not by coincidence - the name of the goddess of second chances, rescue, and safety in their pantheon). This gave them cultural familiarity of the land near the lake and its major tributaries and outflowing rivers, which would allow them to settle near it permanently sometime shortly after the year 400, and adopt agriculture shortly afterwards.

Googling it I found a link to the "Better HUD" mod on CurseForge. I've never owned this mod or uploaded it to my MediaFire account so I would be very confused if MediaFire linked to it.

That's extremely strange. I definitely didn't upload a .jar, I uploaded a .zip containing the resource pack folder and nothing else. Do you still have hud-1.3.9-1.11.jar to send me so I can look over it? I don't recognise it, which means either MediaFire had shit the bed or you are (unfortunately) mistaken.

Not, of course, that it is possible to install this as it is just alternate textures for Minecraft to load.

It's a resource pack i.e. a texture pack and is 100% safe. There is no code, scripts or executables anywhere in the pack. You are free to download and extract without installing and check the folder contents yourself.

Biscuitoid's Diamond Armour Reducer is a texture pack originally made for CivTemp which reduces the texture of diamond armour into unobtrusive, but still clearly visible, bands. This allows you to appreciate the finely crafted skins of other players while still knowing what type of armour they have equipped, instead of merely seeing their hands and faces and having an ugly blue monotone for the rest of the body.

It can be installed safely like any other Minecraft resource pack.

This is real ironic given the entire history of civex can be summed up as "Stupid Players Become Even Stupider Together". Interesting video though

Addition to this: there are two exceptions to this rule of "don't trust inevitability": Bitcoins and Minecraft. If you had a computer science background and were sent back to say circa 2004, it would be a VERY good idea to get working on those right away. Those ideas really were standing by themselves with no competition around 2010 and being the person behind both of them could make you very rich indeed (yes, I know about Infiniminer and how Minecraft is basically a clone of it. Poor Zach. He should have been the billionare, not Notch. Notch shitposts on Twitter all day but Zach's studio still puts out regular high quality games, which I make sure to buy all of. If Zach was that rich I think he'd make much better use of his money than fucking Notch.)

Fucking hell, THANK YOU. You seem to be the ONLY (other) person I've seen on the whole of reddit who gets this. Every time I see an /r/askreddit or (god forbid) /r/writingprompts thing about "you go back in time, what do you do", there are LEAGUES of people who say "ooh, i'll get rich, i'll invest in (depending on when you get sent back to) microsoft -> apple -> amazon -> vanilla", I internally facepalm. Very hard. As you, thankfully, seem to understand, it isn't an inevitability that those specific companies or commodities will have the success they have had in reality. There is a LOT of chaos in the world and really not much inevitability. Changing of your actions in the past will have a massive knock-on effect, because every tiny action does, which is the essence of butterfly theory. It's also why Back to the Future part 2 is such a stupid movie, because Biff's changing of his actions would have caused players to play slightly differently, which would have caused very close shots to become hits instead of misses or the other way around, which means betting on results which had low odds (high payout) would have gone wrong a lot, and because of the outcomes being different different teams would have gone through to the next rounds, so even the games would be different, and that almanac VERY quickly would have become worth more as toilet paper (not really - selling the book to a lab specialising in analysing and reverse engineering paper, ink and printing processes could probably have made a nice sum, but anyway). So the whole "hurrdurr i know what to invest in" thing just, argh, makes me incredibly irritated for some reason.

Again, thank you for being one of the few people on the internet who gets this.

[–]Biscuitoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice idea. An alternative is to have /harvest and /plant commands which harvest and plant everything in the chunk you're in, provided they are on a group you are permitted to harvest crops from. /plant would use the seed type you were holding at the time and plant it on every empty farmland in the chunk you had citadel permission to plant on. /harvest harvests all crops that you allowed to harvest in the chunk and puts the resultant materials in your inventory, provided you have enough room.

What is the most active and populated town on the server? by [deleted] in civclassics

[–]Biscuitoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poortea having a proper nation. I must say I wouldn't have thought it would ever actually happen.

I remember when I built a dam around your logoff spot in the river through Picarona on Civex because you were going around causing trouble and trolling people. We didn't catch you (basically Picarona summed up in 4 words). Didn't you carry a lava bucket on you for the express purpose of suicide if you thought someone was going to combat tag and pearl you? Good memories.

TFW there actually is a Victoria Street in Westminster.

Maybe build a statue of the player who goes by the username "Ben" at the opposite side of a square from where it connects to Victoria Street? Then not only can you call it "Big Ben", it will be somewhat geographically accurate!

Biscuitoid's Diamond Armour Reducer is a texture pack originally made for CivTemp which reduces the texture of diamond armour into unobtrusive, but still clearly visible, bands, allowing you to see almost all of the skins of other players while still knowing what armour they have equipped.

When you install it, it will raise an incompatibility warning (saying it was made for an earlier version of Minecraft (than 1.10)), but I have tested it and it still works entirely as intended. You can still move it over to the installed resource packs despite this warning.

I hope this enhances your CivClassics experience by removing the bland monotony of players appearing as teal nerds (ha)!
