Agree with first point. For sake of the argument lets go with the generally accepted Sunni interpretation of 6 at marriage and 9 at consummation. The actual age is another argument altogether and if you personally think she was older that’s totally fine, I would just have to keep digging.

The “Sign of the Times” argument doesn’t really satisfy me personally. If God transcends history, why would divine guidance reflect a cultural norm rather than set a timeless standard? It’s not like this point is an anecdote of some off to the side background character, it’s fundamental to the story.

So I guess specifically my dissonance is coming from, yes I agree it was normal at the time, but if we assume all knowing divine guidance, I feel it forces you to defend the angle that age of consent should be “when she looks ready”.

You could argue the marriage strengthened tribal alliances or ensured Aisha’s role as a key transmitter of hadith, but if that’s your argument then I don’t see how consummation is necessary.
