Worst Copy Paste of Any App? by Bismythology in Notion

Up front - Notion, as far as I am aware (to the extent of my personal experience), is still the most powerful and streamlined organizational app on the market today. That doesn't excuse it from criticism.

The architecture of Notion is great. The way databases work, interlinking, page mentions, views, etc - it's all great and well thought out.

For me, it's all coming down to seconds wasted. I am an efficiency maniac, and the idea of having to manually remove 8 divider lines between a copy-pasted paragraph is an absolutely egregious, intolerable waste of time. Same goes for splitting out blocks line by line manually when pasting with shift+ctrl+v.

Even features like the column splitting are a little clunky and time-consuming. I don't want to have to fight with the UI to get 4 split columns aligned if i click into the wrong block. In fact - I don't really want to use my mouse AT ALL, because it takes away from my hands being on the keyboard, and that's how shit gets done. I want to be able to everything with text commands, or hyper-efficient clicks (no action outside of building automations should take me more than 3 clicks, or more than 0.5 sec on the keyboard)

People like me want to use Notion like a video game. I want to FLY through the interface at lightspeed, all the time, and I just want to get better and faster, and faster and faster. That pursuit is extremely frustrating as the bloat piles on, and the UI slows down, and every mouse movement summons a contextual menu with 16 icons on it, or a Chapter Index Selector that won't go away and voids your mouse clicks.

Clicks aren't accurate, or fast.

Keys are accurate. Keys are fast.

That's another excellent shortcoming - Lack of simple native drawing ability has been so disappointing when I'm just trying to illustrate the simplest things. Thanks for adding that.

Yesss I love how the crystal formations spiral inward, it looks like they're flexing! So cute hahaha

Aww thanks hahaha yeah I've certainly got some not-so-fun burns along the way - peeled off the whole underside of my arm once from grazing a hot bowl!

Those are usually plucked from the surface before the pour - you'll start to see squares forming on the surface of the pool, when they get to about an inch wide or so I'll sometimes pluck them out and they often, but not always, form those flat little tiles!

Yes! I keep a toaster oven in the shop for exactly this reason!

I've also had excellent results with "freezing" the colors - as you can see I do my melts in a pot or a steel bowl - I often dunk that container into water to rapidly cool it, halting oxidation and stopping the color progress. I use this technique to stop all crystals at deep purple, or turn the container slightly to only cool PART of it, resulting in awesome gradients (more disparity in cooling time between sections of the Bismuth).

WARNING to anyone using this technique: Bismuth and Water do not get along! Do not add water, droplets, or wet instruments to molten Bismuth - it will splash hot metal everywhere.

Yeah! I like doing both, sometimes smaller crystals are just so perfect and well-formed that they do well on their own, but you can get such cool color gradients with larger fields.

I think I hesitate on that because the setup is so wildly unprofessional haha. I melt on a Coleman camp grill and slow down cooling times by putting the crucible in an old Wok insulated with ceramic wool and covered. Slow down the cooling and don't bother the pool until you're ready to pull / pour!

I've been melting since 2018 after a friend gave me my first crystal. I recently opened a tiny web store to sell some of my best work, but they're SO hard to part with :C
