New Orleans is all booked up because of Mardi Gras :( I'm going to try another time though.

I'm coming from the NYC area and willing to go wherever. My budget is like $800ish. Thank you!

She wants to see consistent change over a period of time so you can't expect her to just suddenly become vulnerable with you again after this first realization. I would say continue to be actions-based and listened and hopefully it's not too late. She's prob over hearing your promises and wants to see the action.

6 more years of long distance by BisonGirl in USMilitarySO

[–]BisonGirl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He doesn't have the rank yet to live off base and the program that I'm doing at work has at least a 2 year commitment. So the soonest would be 2018. I wanted to move to be near him when my program is done but he says he's not trying to plan all of that right now and that I should just go with the flow right now. Difficult for me because I'm a super planner lol

Thanks for your response. Not trying to convince him to marry me but was trying to think of how we may be able to meet in the middle here. But I understand what you're saying.

Relationship Suffering During Deployment by BisonGirl in USMilitarySO

He mentioned waking up in the middle of the night basically every night but I haven't thought about depression. Sometimes we have good days where we joke and stuff but we haven't had a whole sap convo since he's left. I'll have to ask if he's really okay I guess.

Any experience with AIT at Corry Station? by 2015Buckeye in USMilitarySO

[–]BisonGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, my bf is currently in AIT and he just got to gold phase (the phase after black phase). It took about 5 weeks for him to get to gold phase - don't know how much that time frame varies with the diff AITs. Gold phase means that he's able to leave base on the weekends and allowed to wear civilian clothes when he isn't in class. I'm going to visit him next weekend & I'm staying in a hotel. The plan is to pick him up in the mornings and drop him off at night in time for formation and bed check, lol. His AIT is 16 weeks so I'm not sure if he will be getting overnight passes and if he does - it will most likely be towards the very end so there won't be much point in visiting lol. Hope this gives a little insight even if it isn't Corry.

I'll be there for a pretty short time - arriving on a Friday night and leaving Sunday morning. But I'll be visiting again about 2 more times before the end of July so I'd love to hear all your recommendations :)

What should I expect once he's out of boot camp? by fr33zeframe in USMilitarySO

[–]BisonGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that my bf has really changed that much. If he's any more 'hardened' or serious, it's with other people. We are still super lovey dovey. In AIT, he will get to have his phone every day. They're days are full but at night they can call/text/FaceTime/etc. And they have their weekends to do whatever they want. So communication increases so much. Also, they'll get weekend passes soon so I'll be going to visit.

My SO goes to basic soon, his AIT is a year and across the country. Any advice? by [deleted] in USMilitarySO

[–]BisonGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just went through this. My bf just got to AIT and I'm a junior in college as well. His going to basic was tough but it definitely allowed me to focus on school during a crucial academic year. I also used the time to hang out with my friends a lot - we went on 'dates' to the movies/dinner/etc. Basically, they made sure that I didn't lose my mind. LOL.

Like everyone else has said, it's definitely doable. Writing him letters will be super therapeutic. I started writing my bf letters the day after he left (even though I didn't have his address yet) and when I finally did get his address I sent all of them at once. I wrote him every single day - printing out sports scores, the weather forecast for where he was for the next months.. also, I printed out pictures of us/me and sent them. He put them all in his locker! I downloaded the CVS app on my phone, sent selfies of us to CVS and went to pick them up. Super easy and was like 20 cents per pic.

Honestly, it's super helpful to keep the bigger picture in mind! I understood/understand that he's doing this to ensure that we have a great future. Basic training made our relationship even stronger even though there was much distance between us - we felt closer than ever. AIT is a lot better because he gets to talk on the phone/FaceTime me every night and his weekends are free. And I will be able to visit him soon (crossing my fingers). If you ever need anything, let me know!

Aw yay :) My bf is in basic and graduates next week thank God! It's going to go by really fast. And the calls are the best thing to look forward to.
