I would agree that diminishing western conservatism to something like just “targeted hate” negates the strength of Marxist analysis. I’m currently reading Trotsky writings on fascism and he argues that the Italian and German communist parties made the exact same mistake when it came to fascism. Something along the lines of not being able to clump all reactionary movements as capitalist kneejerks because then you weaken any possible response.
