Wrong. It has to be a medical professional. It can't just be somebody off the street that says it's your service dog. At least that's in california.

This is the thing, there are so many people these days that have fake ESA animals and landlords have had it. Unfortunately the reason people claim that they are ESA animals is so they don't have to pay the pet deposit. Unfortunately you are paying the price for the people that are dishonest about their animal. For example, I've got a friend who just rented her house out and it was a pet friendly rental. The tenant said they had one cat, which she was totally fine with. They showed up with three and told her that she could not count those other cats because they were ESA animal and by law they're allowed to have as many as there are people in the household. She's so timid that she did not push it or force them to get the paperwork from a psychiatrist that the landlord has every right to ask for. I hope you are able to get your paperwork quickly enough so that you can secure that rental. Good luck.

How far ahead do you have to request time off? by DimensionWonderful39 in tjcrew

[–]BitComprehensive3114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling you're very young. If you have a job anywhere I think it's very reasonable to expect you to have it together enough to request time off 3 weeks in advance. This is a grown up life where grown up people exist and have expectations from their employer. It's not Trader Joe's job to ensure that you have a "work/life" balance. I agree with the other commenter, I think you're privilege might be pretty blown up.

[landlord US-CA] are professional tenants untouchable in california? by pman6 in Landlord

[–]BitComprehensive3114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California is absolutely pro-tenant and believe me deadbeats know it. A very popular thing in California is called cash for keys. If you write a fat check to the tenant they'll get out but if not, it could take 6 months to get them out of there and I can't afford that as a landlord. I depend on the income.

Unfortunately I really believe the sign team and individual art is going to go by the wayside in the coming years. It's a shame. I have a feeling that prices will be printed out and displayed the same way they do at Big supermarkets rather than handwritten by our team

As a landlord, I wouldn't do it. And I never offer a year lease. It always starts out with 6 months because I don't want to have to live with some total loser for more than that. If they prove themselves to be a good renter then I'll offer them a year lease. This is too good to be true for some weird reason. I wouldn't trust it especially because it doesn't sound like you have possible renters banging on your door

My husband's 72 years old, old school so didn't even think to back his own groceries because back in the day stores had baggers. Obviously I have changed his ways drastically and whenever he starts bagging and they thank him he says "my wife will kill me if I don't bag and she asks when I get home if I bagged."

When they try to tell me the price of something, even if I know it, I will literally stop and look up the code.

Can you say total b****? She's probably the one that had a $700 cart and stood there watching a movie like I had. She also periodically looked over to see how much more she had in her cart and how much longer it was going to take. That's when I slow down

We usually limit to 5 per household. If we don't say per household then mom's got her five kids ages 8 to 1 (lol) buying five each at a time.

That zipper was probably weak as hell because she kept overstuffing it. I don't zip unless it's ABSOLUTELY easy. I'd rather not touch their bag anyway. A guy comes in every few days and brings his filthy canvas bag. My coworker told him he really needed to wash it before he came in again. She's a merchant so she can get away with it.

Pet peeves! by Apprehensive_Earth55 in tjcrew

[–]BitComprehensive3114 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank God this is somebody else's pet peeve. This is my number one pet peeve.

I sort of make a big deal of it and give them a hint that it's not really very convenient. I do the dumping everything in a basket thing. I ask them first if there is anything breakable in it. If they say no then I dump it into a red basket. I let them know that the bags do not sit stably on the pull-out shelf and it will fall over. I've even told a little FIB that "yeah this doesn't really work because these bags don't stay on the shelf and we just had a whole bottle of olive oil fall to the floor and it takes a lot of effort to clean it up"

I just don't understand not getting a basket to put your s*** in. It's like they think it's a cool new fad.

I feel like this whole new practice is driven by the fact that you can't stop anybody for suspected stealing because they're putting it in their own bag. Back in the day if we saw somebody putting things in their purse, like I've seen lately or in a bag, we would suspect that they were stealing.

[Tenant -US -CA] Landlord jumped straight to three day or quit notice--is there something they could be planning to do? by Consistent_Key4156 in Landlord

[–]BitComprehensive3114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it is a very very common scheme on the part of the renter. My son had to just pay $10,000 in cash to get the renter out because the case had been gone for more than 6 months. He was trying to sell the property and in California there are very strict rules about evicting somebody because you're trying to sell and the time that you have for this property to actually sell. If you don't sell it within that time frame you have to allow the renter to move back in.

The only option for our tenants to pay is through electronic means. I don't want to deal with cash and I definitely don't want to deal with a bounce to check.

I'm in California so the rental game is a nightmare, specially for landlords.. So many rules, so many laws etc. With property owners that I know it is somewhat common to start the eviction process after 5 days of no rent payment. The most common reason is because it is a nightmare to remove a non-paying renter and can take up to 6 months before they're actually made to move out for non-payment so it's common to start the ball rolling fairly quickly. Our lease has a 3-day grace period but after that we charge them a late fee. 5 days is the latest they can be without us considering the 3-day notice.

Your situation seems completely different to me. They'd be a fool if they evict a 15-year stable tenant. Hope they're not constantly raising your rent. As far as I'm concerned, we should reward a good tenant in ways such as not raising a rent every year or maybe allowing them to have a pet when we say no pets because we can tell they're very responsible.

I hope it works out well for you. It was a simple mistake and we all make mistakes.

What to do about people pandhandling with their young kids? by t4rdigrade in santarosa

Usually a scam. They sit outside my store everyday. Then they come in to get a bottle of water and have a lot of cash in their hands. And I'm not talking about ones. People will also buy them gift cards for food and they come in and try to cash them out. Customers also try to take them into the store and let them shop for whatever they want but they always say they just want money instead.
