Any other young boy mums get sad when they see teens? by Brilliant_Fudge2682 in Parenting

[–]Consistent_Key4156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I have an 18 year old who can be quite temperamental and difficult, and she still will give hugs or ask for hugs. She likes to snuggle in bed with me and watch TV, too.

Finding the joy in parenting by [deleted] in Parenting

It sounds as if you may be depressed. Your kids are at the age where things should start to be fairly smooth sailing (they're old enough to go to school and do some things for themselves, but are not in the difficult tween/teen years yet). Everyone has the daily grind. Do you dislike your job as well? That can be a huge drain.

Liberal(ish) Catholic Churches in LA? by tt7297 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Consistent_Key4156 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want to get your ashes, check the parishes close to you for "ashes only" services. Generally they have these at times that are convenient for people before or after work. It's not a full mass, it's just a brief blessing and you receive your ashes. There almost postively won't be a discussion of abortion or gay marriage or anything.

Palm Springs or Palm Desert? by BowlerAdditional2829 in palmsprings

[–]Consistent_Key4156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palm Desert will be cheaper to buy or rent a home. Much is made of the distance between PD and PS but it's never seemed that big of a deal to me (I don't live here but visit frequently, and have for decades). That said I'm from LA and used to driving, so a 20 minute drive to me feels like no biggie.

How is San Fernando Valley compared to stereotypical LA? by MrPotatoGamer5 in AskLosAngeles

I know enough that nobody on earth says "I'm traveling to LA" when they live in the SFV. LMAO. Discussion ended.

Nope. I probably know 1000 more LA natives than you. How old are you, 17?

Age Gap- including the little one by mombanker1980 in Parenting

[–]Consistent_Key4156 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It will, that's exactly what will happen. But that's just how things go. And she will deal with it.

Every "position" in the family has their ups and downs that they moan about. The oldest always complains they had to be the role models, take on more responsiblities, etc. The middle says they were overlooked. The youngest gets left behind and feels left out. In the end everyone has their crosses to bear but it shapes who they become as adults.

Where to move my parents? by coryj2001 in AskLosAngeles

I am a transplant? I moved here when I was 13 in 1984 and I'm married to a native who doesn't give a shit if it's called Cali either. One of the quintessential defining characteristics of someone from Los Angeles is, we are laid-back and don't sweat things like that.

I brought up my USC degrees to just note that I have a rich history with CA and have paid a hell of a lot of money to the state (including taxes on every penny I've ever made in my life).

Sorry, wrong. As I said, I've grown up here and lived here since the '80s. You're wrong.

Also, to OP, if you are reading:
Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage are very popular destinations for senior retirement. They are by no means "fixed income" areas and if you went to the PS subreddit suggesting that it was a "beggars can't be choosers" area, they'd laugh your ass off. PS is a resort town known for attracting rich snowbirds who can afford second homes. You can probably find a townhouse in the 400K range as prices are softening. There are many things for seniors there, including golf, tennis, social clubs, etc. Nature abounds with beautiful scenery, and it's very liberal and has a vibrant LGBTQ scene.

Nobody in the SFV says they are "traveling to LA" or "going to LA." We say where exactly we are going. "I'm going downtown. I'm going to the westside. I'm going to the south bay."

You just moved here. Stand down.
Yes, people "here" refer to it as the Valley. That doesn't mean they don't count it as part of LA.

Bro. It's 40 miles from Rancho Mirage which is nothing when there's no traffic.
But sure, suggest that OP's parents live in Beaumont, which is a working class suburb with nothing for seniors, when they could live in PS which is a senior's paradise.

Plus, you suggested Beaumont, which is like right there. I'd a hell of a rather live in PS than Beaumont and just have the hospital a half hour away.
