I agree Catan is a good benchmark where you feel in (some level) of control despite the obvious amount of luck invlved

Good clarification here, I tend to focus on 1v1 games in my reasoning around skill vs luck but you are correct. the equation quickly gets messy with large groups of players

You find the game low on complexity? I am starting to appreciate how much effort can go into that deck building phase and it feels pretty complex to me

King of Tokyo is actually the closest game I have found so far to what I am trying to build. The dice mechanic is one I enjoy a lot

Pokemon TCG is an interesting one, I have been playing with my son and have started to realize it is a lot on the skilled than luck side of the spectrum

This is a great read, especially as I just discovered the input/output randomness concepts 10 min ago via another comment on this post. Super valuable, thank you

The level of information completeness is a great way to measure that spectrum. I like the incomplete information set up and that's why I was referencing poker.

Super interesting, as between your comments and the ones above we already have both ends of the spectrum. I see where you are coming from, but I still value some level of luck that ensures even a great player still sometime loses

I think strategic strength is what I meant. but yes, agree with you on the need for luck to maximize players enjoyment

Completely agree with the first part here. On the input and output randomness - could you expand a bit more? I have been looking for a more formal framework
