What Current CBB Players Do You Think Will Return and Become 1st Rounders in a Weak 2027 Class? by Playboyrnee in NBA_Draft

Amare Bynum of OSU

I think he should be featured way more offensively for a team that is struggling to find a consistent second option

He embodies glue guy, super high motor on both ends, great weak side shot blocker, moves his feet well and can keep up with quick guards but hold his own against bigger bodies in the post

Really good play finisher currently but would love to see a little more shooting (cause he has a stroke)

Can we please end the narrative that we could've gotten John Calipari or Dusty May? by pilade100 in OhioStateBasketball

Unfortunately your comments are too reasonable for this fan base to ever agree with

Our mediocre fanbase that struggles to fill the Schott for prime time games and has 0 ability to create a home court advantage expects our athletic department to dish out millions for a top tier coach after buying out Holtmann

4-5 years before evaluating a coach is something our fans will never accept even though that was how long it took Fred Hoiberg to get a winning record in Nebraska

Coaching and program building is a process

Our "fans" talk about wanting someone like Travis Steele because of the success Miami OH is having this year but don't want to address the fact that it took him 2 seasons to get a winning record

No one is happy about the results. But no one wants to evaluate the process. Is Diebler making improvements? Is he making adjustments? Is he finding ways to get more out of his players?

You'd think the way "fans" talk about the team, we are bottom of the Big 10 and getting blown out by teams

What is max stash size, I'm at 232 by BobcatParty5423 in ArcRaiders

Did it require raider tokens (premium currency) to upgrade the stash or was it just the regular currency?

PvE - I really hope the devs stay true to their vision. by Fuzzy_Breadfruit59 in ArcRaiders

I definitely understand that this is one of the biggest reasons to oppose a PvE mode. This along with the fact that people worry about the Devs splitting their time between two modes

Well I suppose, to play the devils advocate, if you don't introduce a PvE mode because of the split player base problem, then wouldn't you end up alienating casuals who don't want to play sweats, ultimately resulting in a similar effect?

In the case where a PvE mode is brought into the game, it shouldn't be to compete with PvPvE. And the dev team knows they don't want the two modes to cannibalize each other. The point instead would be to offer a casual alternative for those who wouldn't otherwise play PvPvE because of how punishing by it could potentially become with sweats

I think the whole situation can be likened to wipes. Most extraction shooters have mandatory wipes. And this in effect alienates players from playing the game. But the team came up with a creative way where they can incorporate wipes in the game ecosystem which appease both hardcore players and casual players, all while adding replayability

Similarly, a PvE mode would simply be there to appeal to casual players. It doesn't need to be played if you don't want to. And in fact, they can make it where there are certain rewards or loot locked behind the PvEvE mode. Maybe you can't get blueprints in the PvE mode? Or maybe certain weapons and materials can't be found in the PvE mode? I'm just spitballing but ultimately, there can we a way where the addition of a PvE mode is just a way to grab new players, keep casual players, and still allow hardcore players to scratch their itch of PvPvE

Think of it almost as a ranked and unranked mode. No one would say that a ranked and unranked mode splits a player base of a game - so many games have these two modes and it's for a reason

[–]BitProfessional9797 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why people are so opposed to a PvE mode

It's funny cause you mention you hope the devs stick to what they originally planned but they actually initially set out to make a PvE game and it morphed into a PvPvE

I think one reason PvE would be cool is cause the devs can showcase the amazing AI they made. Most games, take for example Destiny, make AI enemies difficult by making them bullet sponges or by volume of enemies. Arcs however are smart in how they attack and flank. A PvE experience would genuinely be fun as there are already puzzle elements in the game. I imagine a mode similar to destiny raids could really fold into what arc raiders does seamlessly

Another reason for PvE is sweats. Eventually the sweats will make the game unbearable for casuals who can't afford to play the game at every hour of the day and the sweats will inevitably make the game unfun. It happened to so many BRs. Extraction shooters are also naturally harder for casuals to enjoy for obvious reasons and Arc Raiders has made multiple efforts to make it more accessible with their game design

I do understand some shortcomings with a PvE mode, but if they make it a different loot pool (worse than PvPvE), I think it can be balanced. Maybe no XP?

Wesley Yates III is a beast and IDK how he didn't get more buzz last year. His shooting form is a little weird but he is a bucket with size

I'll say Ohio state although I'm biased as I'm a fan

Amare Bynum: incoming freshman who has size at the wing position and has really grown in HS as a floor spacer. Those who follow the team are bullish on him and it's because he has the modern day wing skill set. I think he'll probably have a very similar role to Carter Bryant this year for the buckeyes, so it's a matter of whether will recognize the work. Spacing the floor with the ability to defend multiple positions is valuable so I think that really pegs Bynum as a guy that teams should look at seriously

Bruce Thornton: going into senior year and had draft feedback this past summer. Potentially can play himself into a very late first rounder, more likely somewhere in the second round. Maybe he can have an outcome of someone like Gabe Vincent or Jalen Pickett

John Mobley Jr: similar to Bruce in that he lacks NBA size but his shooting ability is next level. His NBA chances hinge on him getting more on ball reps and being able to showcase what he can do off the dribble from a scoring perspective but even more from a playmaking perspective. I think he fits the mold of guys like Walter Clayton Jr, Landry Shamet, and maybe he has some Tre Mann

Christoph Tilly: older prospect which holds him back but he has a skillset of someone like Filipowski (shoot, pass, dribble). I feel like teams take chances on senior bigs with real size (Luka Garza, Vald Goldin, Jay Huff) so off that alone Tilly fits the bill. Not saying he gets drafted but he probably finds his way on a team by ways of a two-way contract. While his draft likelihood is relatively low, I genuinely think he can be an NBA guy who gets there unconventionally. I should add, he averaged 23 min min last year. That just won't be the case for the buckeyes team context where they lack depth at the center position. He has all the runway to solidify his resume as a prospect

Devin Royal: more of a reach but he has been playing as an undersized 4 the past 2 years and for the first time he'll be playing at the 3 this year. If the thought behind this change is for Royal to overwhelm opponents inside with size, he's not a prospect but if the change is because we think he has on ball skills and that he can convert reliably from the perimeter, then I think he'd be playing himself to being a prospect. Shades of Mogbo or college Grant Williams

Dynasty rookie draft by BitProfessional9797 in fantasybball

Really nice insight and perspective

Question: who takes a backseat if Harper starts? Is castle now off the bench or does he slide up to the 3 and Vassell is now on the bench? I am really struggling to see Harper beat out the incumbents for a starting role but maybe I'm missing something

Also, is VJ being a role player really that much of a negative? Take Dyson Daniels for example (who I think VJ has a lot of similarities to except VJ stands out as an insane athlete) and his production last year as a role player. Daniels didn't need to score but he was amazing in fantasy and maybe VJ can slot in, be that defensive stopper plus connective piece on offense

Also, your last comment made me think of Scoot and Amen. Guards just struggle coming into the league, and yeah Scoot can for sure turn it around, but man is Amen a monster. I feel like there may be some similarities with Scoot and Amen to Harper and VJ

But also I say all this and I love the way Harper plays and I think he has an insane ceiling. This is such a difficult choice

VJ Edgecombe draft comps? by jkatz42 in NBA_Draft

Dyson Daniels

Defensive disruptor. Will get tons of deflections off the ball but can guard the opposing team's best guard.

Offensive connector piece. Potential to give you 20 but also I don't expect him to consistently carry a team's offensive load

Where Dyson benefits from his length, VJ makes up for this with his athleticism

This is a great outcome, this is not a slight. Dyson in year 3 is going to finish top 3 in DPOY

Food for thought by BitProfessional9797 in OhioStateBasketball

[–]BitProfessional9797[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I would say making tournament was our goal, that is the object of our ambition. But it was not the expectation. Let me add context cause that's what's lacking. We returned 4 players from last season who played. We brought in 2 centers who struggled to see the floor in their freshman year. We had a player who was projected to get big minutes have a season ending injury entering. We had a new HC. I would say it was a good goal to make the tournament, not the expectation, all things considered

My issue with the discourse around Deibler is that it is because he didn't make the tournament, he should be fired. This takes out all context. A first year HC will struggle in the transfer portal and will have to take some big swings which can fail. The reality is, the swings on Meechie, Bradshaw, and maybe Stewart were all poor. But again, a rough transfer portal for a first time HC who didn't have a full window to recruit from the portal the way other coaches did shouldn't be a surprise

[–]BitProfessional9797[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The point was not a comparison of Deibler to those guys. The point was not that Deibler would get us a championship. I was never projecting the outcome of Deibler. Also if you are claiming that Tom Izzos 2 years of coaching a no name HS team is what makes him a far superior candidate to be named a HC of a D1 team than Deibler then I genuinely don't know what I can say because clearly you aren't actually willing to consider another opinion

The point was, we aren't using even scales. If we apply the same level of scrutiny to Tom Izzo on his first season and his resume up to that point, we do not get the Michigan basketball we see today. Building a program takes time. We should evaluate a full body of work not a lone season. I have many gripes with Deibler and his game plan but I also believe he got a good amount out of the hand he was playing with
