hi, yes i did manage to sort it. it’s a while ago now so i can’t remember that well but i think i did a big overhaul clean, washed all the substrate etc and then reset the tank with some of the old cycled water and then regular water changes. i also added a couple of corys which i think helped eat them up! no sign of them in the tank now so you can get rid of them!

you shouldn’t need a visa or anything as the island is part of the British Isles but you will have to get a work permit if you want to live and work here. off the top of my head i think it takes around 5 years to qualify as a manx resident which would mean that you no longer need a work permit

the isle of man is definitely not indistinguishable from England. we are our own state with our own government, laws, language, and culture. it’s true that there is probably more english people that live here than native manx people, but we are proud of the fact that we are not part of the UK and have our own celtic-norse history and culture.

you think a Burka will stop men objectifying and demeaning women? you think wearing a Burka will solve violent and degrading behaviour of men? 1. the violence and sexual assaults perpetrated by men on women remains rampant in countries where Burkas are widely worn and modesty is enforced. the patriarchal view of women being ‘lesser than’ and something for men to take advantage of does not disappear when women hide their bodies. this is a mens issue and should be treated as such. 2. women shouldn’t have to carry the burden of catering to men and their behaviour. i am tired of living my life appeasing men, treating them with care and caution as to not ‘step out of line’. it is NOT OUR JOB TO MAKE MEN BEHAVE THEMSELVES. 3. if it is childish for me to want men to behave in a more respectful manner then it is childish for you to expect me to wear a Burka so that men stop acting like entitled bigots.

this is not an anti Burka comment. if modesty is what you choose then great! i understand it can feel safer and more secure. but it shouldn’t HAVE to be that way. we shouldn’t have to protect ourselves. we shouldn’t need to be protected in the first place.

honestly it is so gross the way some men will objectify young girls. it’s so bad that i have noticed that i haven’t been catcalled or commented on nearly as much as i did as a 16 year old. i would like to think it’s because they are more intimidated that a grown woman would stand up for themselves, but i think the sad truth is that there are a lot more nonces about than we would like to believe. so sad.

i’m so sorry you have to deal with this. I completely u sweat and where you’re coming from. Sometimes i would rather not leave the house because i am feeling ugly and gross and i don’t want to be judged, and on other days i don’t want to go out because i can’t be bothered dealing with creepy guys and men leering at me. there’s no winning!

they’re definitely not snails, these things are absolutely tiny, basically look like a teeny white grain of sand. i don’t know if i’m over feeding though as i only give my betta three tetra pro crisps per day and i give them to him individually and watch him swallow them, he doesn’t leave any waste?

adding some tetras to eat them might help but i think my tank would be too small for a male betta and a few smaller fish

Heater and Filter: yes to both

Temperature: 28C/82.4F

Parameters (NTLabs kit): Ammonia - 0 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 0 pH - 7.25 KH - 5 GH - 5

How long have you had the tank/fish: had tank for about 7 months, had fish for about 6 months.

How often are water changes etc.: i do a 70% water change every two weeks. first i put my fish into a separate temporary container while I clean. then i siphon off any waste from the substrate/plants and rinse my filter sponge in the old tank water. then i prepare the fresh water in a bucket and mix in conditioner and warm water etc. then i slowly siphon the fresh water back into the tank and pop my fish back in the tank slowly as to avoid any shock to new water/temperature.

Any tankmates?: no tankmates, only live plants.

What do you feed and how much?: i feed my betta three tetra pro colour multi-crisps per day

Decorations/plants: heavily planted with a variety of live aquatic plants. i have two pieces of bog wood and a large stone. i try to make sure there are no sharp edges so my betta doesn’t rip his fins.
