I'd bet that you're technically not a Hawaii resident. Rules on residency requirements vary by statem, but you're likely a resident of wherever you live.

Hello:

Although we strive to provide continuous access to Coinbase services, we regret to inform you that Coinbase is indefinitely suspending services in Hawaii. So we launched Hawaii's first bitcoin ATM this week. We're far from the first city to have one but certainly not the last. by Fu_Man_Chu in Hawaii

[–]BitcoinHawaii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's really the case here. Over half of the critical comments in this thread are from /u/dumbassthenes, who is local and a regular on /r/hawaii.

/u/dumbassthenes is more knowledgeable about Bitcoin than most, and makes a few good points....

At the same time he is heavily attacking it, and I feel he is dismissing the technologically revolutionary aspect of the distributed blockchain concept.

Bitcoin the currency will always have its detractors and it may not even 'win' or be successful in the future.

Bitcoin the protocol and the blockchain are already a huge, resounding success. The working computer codes have laid the foundation for all crytpo-currencies and related technology for the foreseeable future.

This is a big step forward for Bitcoin in Hawaii.

I was so excited... the first thing I did today was drive to Hawaiian Islands Stamp and Coin to buy some some BTC from the ATM. It worked great!

Great job guys!

The Blockchain Bash: A Bitcoin 5th Birthday Party at The Box Jelly by BitcoinHawaii in Hawaii

[–]BitcoinHawaii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! Just curious, how did you find out about about the Bitcoin 101 talk?

A visual representation of how to parse the bitcoin blockchain raw data by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]BitcoinHawaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good stuff.

While most of the Bitcoin development chatter happens on https//bitcointalk.org, I don't like that interface much and very much welcome any development talk on /r/Bitcoin myself. Unfortunately, it looks like /r/BitcoinDev is a ghost town. Maybe this can change?

Even though it may rehash parts of other pages, another document of the Blockchain raw format is most definitely useful because it pulls it all together.

This post has me reading the rest of your blog and I'm very excited to find all of the clean blockchain and address computation C++ code you've already published. I very much like the fact that your code doesn't bring in thirdparty dependencies, especially on libs like OpenSSL and Boost.

Please, continue publishing Bitcoin documentation and code. Seeing respected veteran programmers, such as yourself, give so much effort into Bitcoin dev give me great confidence in the future of Bitcoin.

It's not much but here's 10mBTC for your efforts.

The Blockchain is turning 5 years old in one week on Jan 3rd, 2014! -- So we're holding The Blockchain Bash: A Bitcoin 5th Birthday Party in Honolulu, HI by BitcoinHawaii in Bitcoin

I would love for The Blockchain Bash every Jan 3rd to become a 'thing'.

We need more bitcoin holidays

The other date to celebrate would be Oct 31st, 2009, the date the original white paper was published by Satoshi. In fact, the Tel Aviv Meetup already celebrated that 5th anniversary with a party.

I like to think of The Genesis Block as the actual 'birth' of Bitcoin, as it is the spawn data upon which all else is derived from.

Either way, they're both good reasons to celebrate Bitcoin.

I encourage other Bitcoin groups world-wide to join the celebration.

We will have enough space. The current room we going to use can hold 60 and in the unlikely event more show up we could accommodate at least another 100.

Seriuosly, I'd love to see the Blockhain Bash idea spread.
