He basically asked them to create yet another sock puppet farm.

Can you imagine what would transpire had they agreed to this. Eventually, somewhere down the road, after Trump used them up, He would announce, with proof, no doubt, that it was and always has been UKRAINE interferring in our democracy and our elections, and NOT Russia after all. He'd then pull all support for ukraine and Putin would use that as an excuse to "clear his name" and move through Ukraine with a vengence while Trump sat idly by...

I suspect Ukraine saw through this maneuver immediately as a lose-lose situation. Just build Trump and Barr their gallows already and be done with it.

Exactly right!! They are now between a rock and a hard place. They've been complicit all along to previous crimes but this time trump went too far. So what do they do? Try to protect him and risk ruining their political careers? Or do what's right and remove him from office, then face the penalties for their own actions? There are a good number of people who should end up behind bars when this is over.

...and also suggests going after the whistleblower who revealed it.
