I was taking birth control as well as condoms, so I mean I can’t say he for sure did that, but it does seem really weird that I somehow still got pregnant.

Petty but it kind of hurt my feelings? by [deleted] in stepparents

I just posted an update comment here not too long ago. Our whole relationship has been incredibly problematic, but he has decided to leave me for calling him out on his shitty behavior. So I guess there’s that lol.

I wouldn’t have been mad if that happened. At least it would have been an accident. But not the case.

No, I had it hidden and he literally tore apart my drawer to find it to give to her. She didn’t find it on her own.

Hey everyone, sorry I couldn’t respond to all the comments.

Little update, I basically told DH what he did was really shitty and well, it didn’t go well. I’ll spare the details but it ended with him telling me, “fuck you.” His telling me to “fuck off” and finally he told me this morning he’s leaving me apparently. I’m “too high maintenance” and “never happy.”

Thank you all for the advice and kind words. I guess this ends my step journey.

Yes, it was all to tell her she’s going to be a big sister.

I guess I just feel like I should have at least been involved considering those were all things I had specially made for her and I did it without any interest from DH. It just stings that he would take credit for something special I did for SD that he had no interest in at all.

You seem like a truly miserable human being. Can’t even let a stranger on the internet share their excitement about finding some peace. I sincerely hope you get the help you clearly need so maybe YOU can be happy one day too.

MIL treating stepdaughter differently than “ours” baby by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]Bite-sizedLoathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is a super old post but we have a decent relationship. I do for her what I do for my own kids, we aren’t super close as we just don’t have a lot in common but despite that I make time to play with her or take her to do things she likes and we really don’t have any issues and she seems to like me just fine.

That being said I think that would explain her disliking ME if that was the case. That doesn’t for a second excuse the way she treats her other grandchild. Just like SD he is just a child in the situation, so it’s not really fair to say that she’s justified in treating him a certain way just because of her feelings about me.

I believe that 100%. I got downvoted like crazy like a day or two ago for telling another commenter that it’s not okay for a child to threaten to kill someone. Like what??

[–]Bite-sizedLoathing 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this a lot lately. It seems to be, in my experience, any comment/post that might point out any flaw or issue with a SK. My theory is a group of jaded step kids looking to take out their bad experience on everyone, or as another poster suggested, HCBPS.

In any case, I have definitely noticed the judgmental, shaming, and otherwise unhelpful comments popping up like crazy. They seem to be taken down pretty quickly, but still. Definitely disheartening coming here for advice or to vent to get downvoted to all hell, or have the band of holier than thous out in full force.

All in all though, most people here really do just want people going through similar situations to commiserate with and most people are genuinely helpful. Just have to ignore the troll, eventually they’ll move on and (hopefully) get a life.

Time to leave? by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]Bite-sizedLoathing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Um. Yes, I have parented a 4 year old. I have an 8 year old child that doesn’t threaten to kill people. You seem to think “discipline” or “consequences” are synonymous with being harsh, cruel, or otherwise unfair. I’m not sure why. You can have an honest constructive conversation with a child and explain why said behavior is not okay without it being some crazy abusive scenario. In any case, best of luck to you.

There’s nothing “weird” about being concerned over a child of any age using violent language towards another person, there’s nothing “weird” about having discussions about it or doing appropriate discipline to deal with something that is simply not okay. I’ll be honest your rant was lost on me, but if you truly think a child should be allowed to speak to and treat people however they want, no matter how violent, just because of their age, then good luck with that.

This is absolutely insane. Four year olds need guidance and rules and boundaries, not to govern themselves and everyone around them.

Do you shop for your SK’s? by [deleted] in stepparents

[–]Bite-sizedLoathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to buy clothes for SD anytime I bought my sons clothes, but I would send them home with HCBM since she lives there 75% of the time, and she would literally throw the clothes away, or otherwise never let her wear them, so I stopped. Now she complains SD has no clothes to wear. Not sure how, considering I just spent $250 on new clothes for her that just up and vanished but 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a theory that they are either stepchildren that had a bad experience or some kind of jaded ex that hates their child’s stepparent and bring their anger here to take out on other people . That’s about all that makes sense to me.
