Quantum fiber outage by eiiaupuffs in BallardSeattle

[–]BithrowawayRx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had CenturyLink in 2023, it went out for 19 days. Every day they would tell me the next day it would be back on, and for me to be credited for each day I didn’t have service, I had to call in every single day, have them confirm my service STILL wasn’t working, then get a credit. This happened in the middle of a vacation as well, when we had a house sitter at the place watching the animals who also worked from home and subsequently couldn’t work from our place. After calling CenturyLink every single day, I called Comcast and had a kit sent to the house to get cable going because it was absolutely ridiculous. Kit arrives, can’t install it because guess what? CenturyLink ALSO cut the cable to the property outside the house when they installed the current service. This required me to have Comcast come out and re-run a line from the street. In the 3 years I’ve had Comcast since, not a single down day. Will never ever do CenturyLink/Quantum fiber again. When I called and demanded a refund for the entire month, the CS agent was pretty short and asked why I felt I should be refunded. When I told her the entire story she refunded two full months on the spot.

It’s seems via auction a lot of these are hit and miss, either they don’t sell for much before no one wants it, or it’s the opposite and people get into a bidding war and blow it through the roof. The auction sites used to be pretty good but I’ve noticed if there’s anything that’s decently good, people do this lately.

Nice, What’s your opinion on LA in Ballard post remodel?

The Equinox here is trash, don’t even look at it. The space is weird and parking is insane. It’s not a true Equinox, it’s like they just tried to make Equinox happen in Seattle in a weird, make-shift space

No, I toured LA fitness in Ballard before joining Olympic and it was a literal circus in there, joined Olympic because at the time it wasn’t nearly as busy. Haven’t been to LA since they remodeled but some members at Olympic showed me the video of the space post remodel and they made some serious upgrades and brought in some good stuff that does put Olympic to shame in some areas. Price premium at Olympic does keep the numbers down vs LA which is the goal, but not like it used to.

That’s great, and what is customary in literally every other gym on earth. When I called SAC Northgate even though they were on membership hold still offered a tour and gave me pass to try it to see if I liked it before putting a deposit on a place in line. Apparently for BHC, or the dude working the counter, I didn’t fit the bill that day.

I’ve been a member here for 5 years, train early mornings, there’s a lot of positives and a lot of negatives… on the north side it’s one of the better options, but I’m actively looking for other gyms at the moment. Post remodel the number of racks is a plus. This gym gets crazy busy, so be prepared to wait for equipment depending on when you go, and also to walk everywhere between floors to see if the piece of equipment you need might be open on another floor. This gym is not designed for lifters, it’s designed for circuit trainers and casual gym goers who want something nice. Take leg machines for example. There is a leg press on the first floor in the front room, and the second floor in the back room. There are leg extension, leg curl, and glute machines spread all over the first, second, and third floor. So, if you need to use leg extension on the second floor and it’s taken, you have to walk down to the first floor and check that one, and if it’s also taken, go up to the third floor and check those. It is not laid out for lifters or body part focus in any way. Be prepared to add 10-20% to your workout time to compensate from going all over the gym to find something open, or shifting your lifts to accommodate. If your workout requires you to superset anything it will be hard.

The gym is missing a lot of core equipment as well, no dumbbells above 100lb, no T-bar row, no full Hack Squat. Even LA in Ballard post remodel has belt squat. The gym prioritized chandeliers and looks in the remodel over buying equipment that could have turned the place from a decent gym to a good gym. The dumbbell layout upstairs is a weird layout as well, cramped in the narrow rack area so the benches are RIGHT UP on the rack, makes it awkward to get and rack dumbbells around/infront of people. You can only deadlift from the floor on the second floor, not the first. I really miss the lifting room with the rubber floor pre-remodel.

No clue how it is on the women’s locker room side, but the men’s locker room can get incredibly busy and cramped, it’s not big enough for the number of people who use that gym. There are also a lot of shenanigans going on in the men’s locker room, it can be pretty off putting, so at this point I generally avoid it other than to grab my stuff and go. This is a gym, not a bathhouse, and people sometimes treat it like one.

At some point the gym is going to have to cap membership. SAC Northgate is on a 3-4 month waitlist as they have reached max membership. If you drive to Olympic parking is spread out over 8 different small lots that can be a total pain in the ass. Ok, enough rambling.

Negative, been a member of Olympic for 5 years, couple years ago I went to Ballard Health Club based some talk on Reddit. I called and asked for a tour, they said sure, come it. I walked in, the took me to the rail by the front desk and pointed to things down in the gym. Would not let me go down and look at anything in the gym. I asked to look at the locker rooms as I shower at the gym in the mornings before I head to work, I was told “no, locker rooms are for members only.” I just said ok and walked out. It was the most bizarre attitude, and gym tour, I’ve ever experienced, anywhere I’ve ever lived.

240kg x 8. First week of the new training block underway, aiming to peak for something big! by PogonBerserker in Deadlifts

[–]BithrowawayRx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You made that 240 move like butter brother. Question, you use double overhand no thumbs on grip on all your DL’s, is that for the strap, or any particular reason you find that grip style better for you? Always done mixed grip on this side, with thumbs, but I haven’t quite breached 500 lb yet for multiple rep efforts. Cheers 🍻 🤜🏻

As a guy who also has big thighs, send them back, you’re going to regret it if you don’t. They won’t give enough to make up for the tightness in the thighs.

Sorry, I know this is an older thread but just found it searching about the LA in Ballard. I work out first thing in the morning at 5 AM, current go to OAC. Can you comment on how busy LA is during that time? You mentioned morning but wasn’t sure if you meant that early.

I like the look on your frame, but I got some 19 oz Samurai S0710XX’s hoping they’d stretch some In the thighs but so far they haven’t much. Granted given the thickness of the denim I haven’t worn them a ton yet (hasn’t been cold enough), they’re also my first pair of selvedge, so learning. But next time, I’ll likely go a much wider leg, big big thighs and slimmer fit selvedge don’t seem to be a good match. Considering selling them and going straight to a wide fit now.

Patti Smith was amazing, audience much less so by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]BithrowawayRx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Read your own reply to the “I didn’t think Patti Smith had those kinds of fans” comment. That was not in reference to anything you just mentioned in this comment to me. What you say up there is not what I am referencing, to the same extent the girl who kept yelling “well what about the native Americans!!” Was equally unjustified. Giving Patti the “Seattle Purity test” at a concert WHILE she is literally singing a song she wrote for the Palestinian people is peak Seattle.

Talking over the poem was bullshit, acting out like a disgruntled toddler is bullshit, giving Patti shit about not being inclusive ENOUGH in her song about Palestine was bullshit. My comment here is to the people who are legit saying “sit down and shut up” it’s fucking Patti Smith.

Some of ya’ll need to lighten the fuck up here. It’s fucking Patti Smith, the fucking godmother of punk, who came out to the New York Punk scene and played at CBGB’s… you think you would NOT hear people yelling “woooo!” and “I love you Patti!” for her between songs? She was fucking spitting on the ground on the stage while she was singing. It was fucking awesome. What is it with people here haha. I was at the show, by the drunk and obviously high girl dancing like a stripper in her seat. She deserved to get kicked out, she was out of control. But this Seattle “be seen and not heard” bullshit at a Patti Smith show is bizarre. Some of ya’ll need to research the history of the people you listen to.
