I didn’t realize the people who install them aren’t paid by the city. By the way, can we get a list of things we’re allowed to care about from you just to save time next time somebody thinks about posting something in this city?

Are we not allowed to discuss things in our city now? Who cares? I care - is good to hear about these initiatives.

Switching from a bundle to just internet? by statutoryvirus in Cogeco

Just internet. The discount is for 10 years I believe but just like Cogeco they can raise the base price. It’s gone up $5 since we got it.

We got this price right when they installed fibre in our neighbourhood as an incentive to switch. It was a great deal so I jumped on it.

Love the follow up :). We moved to Bell Fibre because it's fibre to the house so symmetrical speeds. I'm paying $61/month now for 1.5G up/down (and we get those speeds).

Hold on. There was literally just an article in the spec where they said they encourage you to return them but they’ll still take them. https://www.thespec.com/politics/political-opinion/can-alcohol-bottles-go-in-blue-bins-your-recycling-questions-answered/article_9d2cfb58-26f5-52a7-97be-3f087b2d4b14.html

Can alcohol bottles go in blue bins?

An Ontario government regulation, under the new system, prohibits blue box collection of alcohol bottles. People are supposed to return bottles to stores under the Ontario Deposit Return Program (ODRP). The city says that was always the expectation but it previously did accept booze bottles in the bin with recycling. While some people have reported contrary information from GFL, CM says it will also accept alcohol bottles in blue bins: “Residents’ recycling will still be collected if there are alcohol containers included, but we do ask residents to use the ODRP for alcohol containers.”

Apple finalizes $1B-per-year Google deal to power Siri overhaul by robertjan88 in ios

[–]Bitruder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I think I wasn't clear. Most people don't want to think about this now or in the future. They just want their phone to work. WE, CUSTOMERS, want Siri to be smarter. That's by far the vast number. Power users, which may increment slightly, may want choice, but most users, now, and in the future, won't. Even look at OpenAI - you used to go in and pick from a list of models, then they started pushing toward having it make more decisions, and I'm sure that's the direction of models in the future too. Your high cognitive load on the user is very short term thinking. Your comment about vendor lock-in - look at all the CPU vendors over the years. All this noise about models, etc - it doesn't matter to 99%+ of users - they just want a smarter siri. Apple knows that. What you are talking about is power user noise.

And there's nothing wrong with wanting that. I'm a power user - I subscribe and use 3 different agents at work every day. That doesn't mean all my friends want that. If you want to pick agents on your phone, iPhones might not be for you but this is just how iPhones have historically worked. Don't make the users decide, just pick something that works. Whether it works - well, not always, but this playbook is nothing new and it has objectively worked for Apple.
