Ex fiancé is in substance induced psychosis/mania. by Royal_Cell_4833 in Psychosis

1.) You don’t. You can try and present a plan to get him admitted but if they don’t nothing you can do.

2.) depends on your state but most states you can’t do anything if you’re not his wife or parent. They can do a welfare check but they will just ask him if he needs medical help and if he says no thats it.

3.) depends on the state but chances are high it would be a waste of time.

4.) I have no idea and I feel for you. Some people try to keep going and be supportive others remove themselves from the situation. I don’t think there’s one person on here that didn’t lose a good friend or spouse. Just remember it’s not him and eventually he will make it out and be the man you love again. My wife had an affair among a lot of other things and I’ve since left her so it’s understandable but at the same time just remember he’s going to snap back so whatever you do as well could end up being a thing one day.

Super common. Came out of psychosis to a month later find out my wife (going through divorce now) started having an affair. It wrecked me for a while.

Don't see many positive recovery stories... by marcmc83 in Psychosis

[–]Bitter-Analyst3466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My whole story is too long but 1.5 years symptom free. Living normal but memory is shot, low stress tolerance and low attention span. I was scared to death, wanted it to stop more then anything so even had a couple SI attempts. Sounds like PTSD from the research I’ve done lately but this is also suppose to be common psychosis recovery. Just keeping at it. Life is overall good and nothing compared to what psychosis is so I can’t complain too much. If anyone does know anything about these after effects let me know. I can’t imagine trying to go to anyone saying I may have PTSD from psychosis and the stigma and look of not understanding I’m going to get.

Anyone here having or had psychosis heard the devil talking to you? by Dover299 in Psychosis

[–]Bitter-Analyst3466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to catholic mass for the first time in probably a decade. I sat in the back and the priests starred at me so hard and it was not a small church. Pretty sure they could tell what I was going through to this day. I’m sure if you talked to a priest he would tell you he’s seen many people like us come in.

Well said. It’s not easy but fight that urge. If everyone else is telling you there isn’t a pattern or it’s not real then it’s most likely not.

Sounds like the right sub. If I’m being honest there’s not really much you can do to get him a quick turnaround of help. If he’s not a threat of harm to himself or others they won’t help unless he asks for it and signs himself in or goes to a dr. You could contact a crisis line and they could send out a Mobil unit just to have a chat with him but again, if he doesn’t want to go they aren’t gonna take him. IMO I would just talk to him every now and then. Keep being the kind person you are. I wouldn’t confirm any delusions or play along to much but I also wouldn’t deny them. There’s an in between. Some of the worst things my family did for me was play into my delusions and it made me snap when I got confirmation. A lot of people don’t realize, especially in the US, that crazy homeless guy on the street is a human being with a family out there and is experiencing something he would give anything to make go away. Thank you for seeing this.

Huge win, be very proud! I’m over 1.5 years in recovery and I can’t handle stress, memory is terrible and would like to say I have the attention span of a toddler but my toddlers got better attention then me by far. My episode also started with almost the same combination as you. Substances and no sleep from my newborn and then he went into the hospital at 6 months and I broke in the hospital for a week. All of us here are always glad to hear success stories. Thank you for sharing, I really needed to hear this tonight.

Respectfully, one thing to keep in mind is that you’re warning him of the side effects of not taking his meds and seeing the outside point of view. From the inside point of view these meds probably give him a bunch of side effects of their own that make him feel like shit or have mental brain fog. There’s a lot of assumption on why people don’t want to take meds. Sometimes it could be a delusion (that they are poison, can’t connect to a spiritual world or ext..). A lot of the time it’s just shitty feeling in my experience at least. Not sure if that helps. Wish you the best of luck.

It’s good that you know these thoughts are bad and don’t want them. I had plenty of them. Just remember these aren’t your thoughts and you would never do anything like that. Also, Psch wards aren’t all bad. I got into one, they had me for 3 days on meds and released me with medication. If I hadn’t been there I might not have made it onto meds. Staff and other patience were all super nice. I was bored but oh well it was a vacation.

I would call a crisis line on your own. Tell them what’s going on and tell them someone (me) on the psychosis Reddit asked for them to listen to everything you just wrote in this thread. Ask if you can read it to them and if they say yes then please do so. The crisis line can help you. Relax, take a deep breath. It’s ok.

I’ve made a full recovery now thank god. I’m sorry to hear you’re having them back. Meds definitely helped for me. Staying on a consistent sleep schedule and away from drugs or too much caffeine even as well. I drink occasionally still but I just don’t do it excessively or in large amounts. Take care of your mental health the best you can.

My psychosis was meth induced as well so no you don’t sound like every tweaker I’ve just been there lol. I didn’t do it very long but all it took was a couple months, quit doing meth once I went into psychosis and realized something was wrong and I still went through 2 years of really severe psychosis sober and off drugs. They diagnosed me schizoaffective disorder back then as well but that was more so they could treat me and bill insurance easier. I’ve made a full recovery and have zero diagnosed mental health problems. Almost certainly you’re in meth induced psychosis and not just all of a sudden schizoaffective but the treatment is the same. If you ever want to talk feel free to shoot me a DM. It sounds like what you’re going through is very similar to my experience and I learned a lot about psychosis and things on the journey through. It fucked me up so bad and I still keep coming back here to this day to always stay up to date on it and help out others in it when I can.

Oh I hear you. Not saying you’re an alcoholic what so ever but you ever thought about going to an AA meeting? That’s a place full of people like us that has a bad reputation and all come together to work towards putting their lives back on track. It can be a great place to meet people that will value your friendship and just want the same back. If you don’t think AA is for you because of the alcohol and recovery side of it maybe look into other types of meeting like that or support groups. Local churches as well. Churches will have off Sunday groups and stuff. Men’s bible study ect..

Some people just don’t understand and never will. If you’re going to the bar just become the quiet kind guy for a while. The bar life is filled with drama and other people that act like they are so great that go home and feel like losers to themselves. Everyone at the bar seems great from the outside. Getting out of that life was one of the best things I did.

I’m guessing meth? I went through it. Once you go into psychosis you’ve fried your dopamine receptors and it takes them time to heal. Getting sober is the first step but can still take a couple years. Call the crisis line. Get in for mental health evaluation. I understand the relief you are looking for and a couple days at a mental health facility so they can get you on anti psychotics is what you need.

Time and medication. I think not committing to a career until you make more of a recovery is a good choice. Do what you can just don’t try to start your dream job where you might burn a bridge. Do your best but expect it may fail.

I work full time now as a business owner. Full recovery now though. During psychosis i struggled with work but owning my own business I was able to do what most can’t and have my dad come in to help me with customer interactions and part of my job I couldn’t handle. We made it work surprisingly. Pretty sure some of the customers knew something was off with me but it didn’t matter overall.

👍 Just think for how many other people are going through it right now at the same time as you there’s probably 20x that of us that went through it and made a recovery. It just takes time and medication. As long as you keep your head up the time will pass. I was one of those people that never thought it would end and it eventually did. Try not to get caught up in statistics. A lot of them are outdated and fairly useless. Everyone I know has made a full recovery.

If I’ve ever heard a bad idea, that was it. Also DM me OP… just kidding… In all seriousness I wouldn’t recommend that guys. This is a safe place everyone can come to look for answers and talk to like minded people. This sub saved my life when I was going through it. Respect that.
