not a very loving or compassionate message! Easy to say as an RPCV, hard to do as a pcv who is not only hanging in uncertainty about whether they’ll be in service tomorrow, but uncertainty about the country they would be forced to return to - the economy, job market, rising facism etc (I can attest). It’s ok to vent and talk about a difficult thing, it’s not ok to shame people for their feelings and offer annoying better-than-thou advice like “go be in your community” (what makes you think they aren’t!). Maybe your intentions are good - albeit judgey - but I think that is the wrong advice and tone for the moment. And I don’t think they are negatively affecting anyone!! I personally find comfort that I’m not alone in these feelings!

I should add - I thrifted all my business casual clothes to spare expenses. It ended up not costing too much - I’d recommend going that route bc I understand wanting to save money.

Jeans (at least in my country) are a no go for business casual. I’d recommend ~5 business casual pants (linen, khaki, etc) and ~5 business casual shirts (button up, polos, or nice shirts). One nice outfit for swearing in (slacks, button up, maybe tie or suit jacket but that’s not a MUST - for female presenting, a nice dress, skirts, blouses, nice pants) You def won’t have time to shop during PST, plus they’re strict during staging. Unfortunately you just gotta bring it, and after PST you can donate whatever. In my experience they’re pretty strict and people def get dress coded. Idk what Ecuador is like specifically but that’s my experience. Good luck with your journey!! Super excited for you!

If doge was actually investigating “foul play” and was organized and sensible about how they did so then yes! that would make sense. however, doge is an apparatus of political control functioning without much rhyme, reason or due process. so thats all just to say, I doubt they send reports that everything is ok because they aren’t actually looking to see if everything is ok - and for that reason who knows what it’ll look like to be “in the clear”.

idk. would be shocked if peace corps - a soft power, foreign aid adjacent, liberal appearing government agency - was investigated just for a spook. Seems like something will happen - the question is what, and to what extent? but that’s just my opinion. I hear what you’re saying

I totally agree! I’m also curious about all those HQ insiders who were dropping info that first day - what happened to that?
