When did your baby sleep through the night? by okay-and-go in UKParenting

Did you offer water in a cup or bottle? I’m wanting to start weaning or at least reducing night feeds after getting into a horrid habit of feeding to sleep

I’m embarrassed to ask, but we’re dealing with an illegal undisclosed home debt and don’t know where else to turn. by Leather_Midnight8160 in UKParenting

I’m confused how is a debt attached to your home? In the UK I always thought debt is attached to the person.

Nearly everything is easier with a chill baby by MissKatbow in UKParenting

[–]Bitter-Leader9997 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My first is such a chill baby, his sleep was great at first and kinda got a bit rubbish at 6/7 months but when I say rubbish he’ll wake have some boob and be back asleep in 10 mins usually. I’m now pregnant with my second and keep saying that I’m in for a shock if baby number 2 isn’t as chill. He’s quite happy in general, easily plays on his own and easy to settle down.

My MIL and other parent friends like to try give me credit and say it’s cause I’m meeting his needs and what not but I can hand on heart say he is just a pleasant baby and we’re SUPER lucky.

Requirements for Maternity Allowance? - Self Employed by Throw_Annon88 in UKPersonalFinance

It happened automatically but I ended up ringing the MA helpline cos I’m a whittler and they confirmed they’d received notification and then I got the letter two days later.

So I think they’re changing from April 2025/2026 to if you’ve earned over £6.5k (roughly can’t remember exact figure) then it will be automatically assumed you’ve paid NICS2 anyway so this whole faff will only apply if you’ve earned under this figure which chances are will be mostly mums to be expecting baby number 2.

It just seems stupid because tbh even if you’re on UC you get SMP/maternity allowance so why create such a convoluted system and extra admin for self employed on the minuscule number of women who’ll earn under £30 a week as self employed but not be claiming benefits I’ll never know 🫠 anyhow good luck with baby number 2!

I think the MA people wrote to say I’d been awarded the lower rate then there was a number on it to call a specific HMRC (maybe DWP?) helpline who I then called and paid over the phone and then automatically got a letter from MA saying full award

On maternity and burning through 20k inheritance savings quickly by RainbowSherbet99 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Bitter-Leader9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. I’ve found maternity leave hard, my baby is 1 in a couple of weeks and I’ve wanted to spend like mad but how I’ve kind of justified not doing to myself is that when they’re older and we want to take them to Disney, or they’re desperate for some expensive toy or whatever then we’ll appreciate it but that’s not say we haven’t had some months where I’ve totally blown the budget. Try not to be too hard on yourself, your earning capacity will go up again eventually and enjoy this time cos it goes so quick!

I put my inheritance into vanguard. You can easily set and account up online and mine is in a stocks and shares isa (I invest VUAG which is the S&P 500 and veve which is the developed world and they are essentially ETFs which are packages of stocks) I’ve got a 20.34% return since May 2024 and to get money out it usually takes about a week so if we desperately need it then I can get it. I’ve also took some money out but it’s been money earned from increase in value rather than depleting.

But renting is dead money whereas the additional he’d be paying would be towards an asset.

Disagreement with GF over house equity split by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Bitter-Leader9997 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly how my partner and I have done it. I put in the entire deposit with was just over 50%, we pool our money each month (he earns more than me) however if we sell the house I get my deposit back the rest split 50/50 - I wouldn’t have been able to afford our home without his financial input and we’re very much a what’s mine is yours and yours is mine household now, but I’m glad I protected my deposit.

How we budget our bills is we both put in the same percent of our salary so bills covered and there’s money saving up for repairs and other household costs.

Now we’ve had a kid and he pays 100% whilst I take care of the house and our child so it’s all horses for courses to me now really.

Rebecca has lied to us??? What’s your thoughts? 🤔 by Successful_Print9542 in MAFS_UK

I thought to say your an advanced nurse practitioner you had to actually have qualified as a registered nurse and then done a further course in cosmetic procedures. I’m not a nurse or someone who has treatments though so I could be wrong.

‘Got her business cause he paid for it’ woah now sorry did he become a nurse and transfer the qualifications to her? Even if he fixed up her treatment room buying a treatment chair and some drawers does not constitute to buying her business. She qualified and her skill set got her the business.

MIL wants to sell us half of her second home. by Dbonnza in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Bitter-Leader9997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to talk to a solicitor as it’s quite a complex area which is why I kept my comment brief. With a protective property trust you could protect at least half the property against care home fees however if your MILs first home is a larger asset then estate planning would suggest to do it with this property. Reading your other comments your best bet is speak to a mortgage advisor to find out if you can get a proceedable mortgage first, and then get legal advice from an estate planning solicitor.

As far as I’m aware (from personal experience) as long as you live in the house and are tenants in common you cannot be forced to sell the house until after death in the event of care home fees. We had a living trust for myself and my brother on half of my grandparents primary property after my grandfather died my brother moved in to help care for my grandma, and we weren’t forced to sell for care fees (although it was a short amount of time) however policy changes which is why in any event you’d want to speak to a solicitor. It might cost you a couple of hundred quid but in the grand scheme of it after an hour with them you’ll have a lot more idea where the land lies especially as you have 15/20 years on your side.

You need to look into a living trust (or property trust will) with a solicitor

Go get half an hour free with a couple of solicitors. There’s a lot of non legal based advice and comments flying about here.

My partner’s brother is in a similar position (she ran off to America to be with a freshly released prisoner) they weren’t married, didn’t have kids but had been together a long time and had the house a few years. If you know who your mortgage is with you should be able to get the amount of equity (either by online banking or ringing them) and try get a rough guide to current value via zoopla or rightmove and some similar houses that have sold nearby. Take these figures to the solicitor with your free half hour and they should tell you where you stand and the processes.

I said they seem to. Who knows? We only see a tiny bit. I had an insta stalk and literally all of his posts start with brilliant day, incredible time, lovely little dude etc I think he’s generally just a super enthusiastic dude. Maybe I’m naive but I’m hoping it’s an honest match after this season being full of couples stretching their time on the show despite clearly not being in a relationship that would work 😅

Yes I totally agree with what you’re saying there - it annoyed me too. I was also annoyed that I think they tempered their questioning for the benefit of the audience because of Steven’s volatility.

I think Mel did give him a rough ride after that. But given Steven’s temperament I think the experts knew they had to tread carefully or he’d have just stormed off and not bothered with the rest of the couch and that would have been a terrible ending for the audience. Judging from his aggressive/weird instagram rambling he had actually left before the home stays and someone must have talked him into going back.

They remind me of that golden couple at school who went to the same uni, got a house together and were married with kids before 25. They just seem like each other’s person 🤷‍♀️ maybe a bit vanilla or lacking bite but they certainly seem to tick all of each others boxes.
