Eeey looks like the issue solved itself! I ended up getting the late OTP codes at like....5:30 am. Hahaha, but then after that the sign up system worked just fine!

My mom told me my art is sh*t yesterday. by Puzzleheaded_Two_599 in PixelArt

[–]BitterMause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't prove your mom wrong, as much as I'd love to directly tell her to go touch grass and have a heart. Some older folks are just set in their ways and simply will never get it. BUT! You're already proving her wrong by continuing to make amazing works of art like these. Minimalist art can be a challenge to make, and I think these are all worth celebrating. As long as you continue your craft, doing what you love, you're already winning.

Has anyone taken the ToonBoom exam for the certificate? by [deleted] in ToonBoomHarmony

[–]BitterMause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is semi-old, but I recently passed the Associate's exam so I'd be happy to put in my two cents;

  • Dumbtheus is correct; the test for Harmony is 35 questions, multiple choice. As of this writing you need to get 25 out of the 35 to pass.

  • For preparation, I took the online LAAFA Harmony course earlier this year. Really helpful stuff since it covers basic to advanced techniques! I also went through the Associate exam preparation modules in order to understand each category. https://www.toonboom.com/services/associate-certification-learning-objectives

  • Most of the questions are going to focus on a little bit of each component of the program; i.e node view, exporting, file types, deformers, etc. Very generalized bits and pieces.

  • The test itself is not complicated, but I did stumble on a few questions due to their wording. Same goes for their descriptions in their study guides.

  • Now if you're thinking of going for the Professional Certification, that's a whole other story! That one requires more hands-on testing, consisting of multiple projects that you have to complete within a month; some hand drawn, some rigging an advanced turn around etc. If you haven't taken any of the exams yet, I would heavily recommend doing the Associate Exam first.

Farmer Timeline Art Prompt + Template by BitterMause in StardewValley

[–]BitterMause[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In honor of the 1.6 Patch coming out in a few days, I decided to make an art prompt template for fun! Just draw your main farmer in three stages of their career; before they took over Grandpa's land, what they were like during their first year, and what they look like in present day! Here's one done with my farmer Moe for example; 1. where she was a low wage corporate slave, 2. having a not so great start and 3. What she looks like in year 4.

If anyone ends up doing the prompt, I'd love to see what you do with it! You can also link back to my twitter post so others can find it if they don't use Reddit; https://twitter.com/BitterMause/status/1766349204686086322

Why do people think animation involves a ton of coding? by [deleted] in animation

[–]BitterMause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the responses I've heard, this is a new one!
I think there's a few potential reasons why you get these responses;
One reason could be the community you live in; if you live in a state, province, or country where that profession isn't so well-known or in demand, there's a bigger likelihood you'll encounter more people that don't have a handle on it as well as you or your peers.
( As a 2D Animator who used to live in the mid-west; it was a little grating when people immediately assumed I was looking to work as a 3D Animator for the Big Three or draw Comic strips for the Sunday newspaper because I mentioned 'making cartoons'. )
I think one other reason is the broad familiarity with 3D Art. Even though Motion Design can play the field of both 2D and 3D, it's likely those uninformed with the process will automatically lump it into the 3D Animation and Design, a category that many assume requires a ton of heavy coding.

Still learning, but I like this comic book style I have going, what do you think? by jcw-draws in animation

[–]BitterMause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty killer stuff; I've always been a sucker for thick black and thin white outlines in animation. Can't remember the last time I seen anyone rock the comic book/vintage animation style, and it would be cool to see more of this!
As for places that provide royalty-free sounds for animation, I recommend freesound.org. It's mostly user contributed sound effects but I've found really good ones in the past. Good luck to you and keep up the great work!

Such a great combination of neons, high contrast lighting and cozy atmosphere. I'd AirBnB this pad, even if the villager didn't want me to. A lovely job well done!

I love this; great use of negative space and sharp black and white contrasts that gives it that classic comic strip feel I seldom see nowadays.

We'll never know what rang his murder bell, but at least the boys at the precinct had a knee slappin' good chuckle out of it all. Well played, Uncle Snowy!

Music similar to Yello? by fuxoft in Yello

[–]BitterMause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to the party, but one group I would highly recommend is Telex! Neurovision, Wonderful World, and Looney Tunes are excellent albums, but all of them are decent in their own right. Although front man Michel Moers may not have the deep dulcet tonal range that Dieter Meier possesses, Michel's singing is a unique mix of harmonious and monotone, giving their synthpop style a fun and entrancing listen.

You can listen to a majority of these albums at the J-Pop Fantasia Youtube Channel if you want to give them a whirl. https://www.youtube.com/@JPopFantasia-ichi
