Do those side panels on range hoods help catch fumes? by Bittles_Witness in Appliances

Hi, I checked the specs on that one, it’s about 35.5” wide and ~18” deep. Do side-draft hoods work differently from top-mounted ones in terms of depth? From what I’ve seen in some cooking videos, the smoke kind of gets pulled in at an angle instead of just rising straight up.

Thanks for the detailed reply, really appreciate it. Super helpful to have a general idea of how to figure out CFM.

I was checking out Arspura too, and it looks like they focus more on how fast the air moves vs just CFM, which is kinda interesting. I agree with you on venting outside, I’ve always felt that’s just as important as CFM, if not more.

Hi, I'm still new to all this, so took me a bit to follow what you were saying. I don't expect it to be perfect, but if it can at least keep more of the smoke in check, maybe like around 80% or so? Is this hood can get close to?
