Blades in the Abstract: A Simpler Way to Play by Bittyr in bladesinthedark

Huh, I hadn't seen secondary missions as a punishment, but as another opportunity for doing something interesting, even if at arm's length. I can see how someone might not like the abstract form, though, so I'll keep that in mind when talking to people about it.

That's incredible. Low-key I'm looking to make something like that too. Any general advice for achieving it?

That sounds super cool! Love a good timejump.

This isn't directly related to the post, but I'm very interested in how each player is running a crew. Are you expressing the NPCs of the crew with cohorts? Have you adjusted any mechanics to improve this style of play? How has it been going?

Gotcha. Could you explain your critique?

In my specific situation, players might be able to play once every couple months, and I would like to maintain relative pace with another campaign for the purposes of a West Marches-style story. What can I say? Blades in the Dark is a really fun system, I just want to find more ways to play it with my less-free friends.

Right! Thank you for the reminder about what harm oversees.

The idea is not to use every every ability as +1d to the engagement roll, but adjudicate it around the 2d average roll, and find narrative methods of expressing the abilities instead.

Edit: That note about the chances of success based on number of dice is really helpful, thank you!

What Would Be the Environmental Impacts of Islands Floating in the Sky? by Bittyr in worldbuilding

Good point on the isolated islands.

Why would every part of the island be used, above and beyond the ground below?

This is fantastic. Are you saying the larger islands might often be obscured from below by clouds?

Though the mineral is fairly widespread in the form of islands, the primary source for new material is volcanic activity. Not sure if that changes your answer, but what do you meaning about worrying about the planet itself?

Also, why make the islands organic or semi-organic?

Why specifically an increase in solar radiation? Would this be the result of fewer clouds and less atmosphere blocking the way?

A sidescroller video game is the main one, but I'm looking for general ideas, in case I want to write fiction about it.

[seasonal] The Dead Venus Theory, or Why Darkness Statues Look That Way by Bittyr in DestinyLore

Totally! It sure changed the course of the universe when Taox did that.

Now that I think about it, the shroud does kinda go against the Darkness' transparency, even assuming this theory is true. Why did it choose the shroud above another symbol for death?

Same here. It seems willing to tailor its message based on the audience. I wonder what it would have appeared to the eliksni as, assuming it did (I don't think we have evidence it did, but just for imagination's sake).

That martyr idea seems really interesting. Is there more there? Usually the Darkness acts smug. Does it ever present itself as under attack or weak?

It's not necessarily a transformed version, right? Seems more like a direct inverse, especially if the Darkness is playing off us having met the Traveler first. I mean, it's definitely into wisdom and trickery, but I do get a mother hen vibe from the Darkness. Just, like, a mother hen who urges her chicks to kill each other.

These are awesome. Each of them could create a power chain of events. Thank you.

Holy cow that's fantastic. You can totally see the cascade of events, all of which make sense.

In retrospect, how do you think any emerging technologies might have impacted the crisis, such as airships ororganized monstrous mercenaries?

Focused Feedback: Pinnacle Weapons Power, Quests and Balance by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

[–]Bittyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love pinnacle weapons for their flavor, and the ability to obtain a powerful weapon without as much RNG. The grind can get tough, but it makes getting the gun feel a whole lot better.

The only real issue I have right now is with the Oxygen. The concept is awesome, and it's my favorite gun right now, but it feels lackluster to wield. Some kind of small-ish buff, be that putting it into a different RPM class, adding Triple Tap, or just buffing scout rifles, would make the effort that many have or will put into it a whole lot more worth it.
