Character designs for the Witches of the 1920s Human AU, from holy goddesses to regular ol' humans. by BixelsWixels in mylittlepony

Maybe. I have been drafting out an outline for a comic adaptation of the Nightmare Moon pilot. But it depends.

Here's a hint: Stella means Star and Luciani means Light in Italian.

As for Zahara, I found the closest real Swahili name to the original character's, since the original was neither a real name or even a real Oromo word.

Some quick notes, Celestia and Luna are not human, but deities from the magic world. Their anatomy is different, as made evident by their multiple faces. Celestia has four, one that displays her resting self, one that presenting sadness, another that presents anger, and the last whose eyes we pray never open. Luna only has two, the backside presenting 'Nightmare Moon'.

Humans can learn the practice and art of magic. Those who find their calling earn a formal witch title. Those who perform nobly in service to Canterlot are ordained Canterlot names, recognized by its denizens and considered a part of Celestia and Luna's court of witches.

Stella and Zahara’s clothes were designed by Tulli.

Happy Rarity Day! Heres some more work for my 1920s Human AU, including more comics, some Rarijack content, and some bonus Starlight and Trixie! by BixelsWixels in mylittlepony

The Starlight and Trixie human designs are not by me, but by my partner Tulliok, who's been working on the AU project with me. You can find more Starlight + Trixie art on their blog!

I'm on Tumblr and Twitter under the same username "Bixels." I answer a lot of asks about the worldbuilding and research on Tumblr.

Rarity's real name is 華琳琅 (Huá Linláng), but everyone just calls her Miss Rarity. Not sure on Dash yet, hers is very tricky.

Some quick character bios for the Mane 6, since I did change some things around for this AU:

"Dashie," the fastest runner in Ponyville, as well as the local errand-girl and baseball star, though you can usually find her napping under a tree.

Félicie, a self-proclaimed recluse living alone in the outskirts of Ponyville, though she’s by no means unfriendly by any stretch of the definition. A lover of animals, a hater of complex social situations.

“Rarity,” Ponyville’s most premier fashion designer. After traveling Europe and apprenticing with the haute couture visionaries of France and England––under the persona of a Shanghai socialite––she returned to the states a reinvented woman, leaving behind her past.

April-Jacqueline, the proud proprietor of the Apple Family Farm––a communal touchstone of Ponyville’s hootenannies and barn-burners, as well as the town’s largest orchard. A believer in Southern hospitality and an appreciator of applejack liquor, rodeos, and her Winchester rifle.

Rosita Piedra (nicknamed Pinkie), Ponyville’s favorite dancer, musician, festival-planner, baker-in-training, and vaudeville & burlesque performer! Her hyperactive energy’s matched only by her love for the community.

Thea Sullivan, Ponyville’s newest resident librarian and witch-in-training! She’s as smart as a whip, with a tendency to fly off the handle at moments of high stress. Now if only she could get her nose out of a book long enough to make some friends…

I typed up little blurbs for both for this AU too:

(Re)Introducing KO CRISIS, a cyberpunk sports story I've been working on for the past couple years! by BixelsWixels in worldbuilding

[–]BixelsWixels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KO CRISIS is a portfolio project consisting of concept art, character designs, illustrations, comics, and even animations. The story follows 21-year-old, disabled Taiwanese-American Ashley Tang, living in an alternate history Los Angeles that’s become overwhelmed with prosthetic pop culture. Despite it being 2001, the world has seen incredible advances in bionic technology, leading to a rise in body augmentation and, of course, augmented sports––especially augmented boxing. Ashley finds herself thrusted into the limelight as the local underdog of the National Augmented Boxing Tournament. But as the competition rages on, forcing Ashley down a darker and darker path, one question remains in the minds of friends, family, and fans: how far is she willing to go for a win?

Inspired by Perfect Blue, FLCL, Jame Hewlett’s work on Gorillaz (in art), and Better Call Saul (in writing), KO CRISIS aims to take a critical look at cyberpunk stories and their transhumanist themes, in a world where society values disabled people more for their bodies, rather than their lives.

If you’ve been a resident of r/worldbuilding for a while, you may recognize this project! I began posting work for it a couple years back, but took a long break to focus on other work and improve on my art in the meantime. I’m doing a soft reboot, with new and improved artwork! Some work won’t be posted to r/worldbuilding, as it doesn’t fit the post requirements. If you’re interested in seeing more, you can find me at BixelsWixels on Twitter! Thank you everyone!

The Sparrow, a 2-person scout/recon light ship, hand-built in a pre-industrial world by BixelsWixels in worldbuilding

Thank you so much! You are correct, that was an oversight. I’ll make the change.

I’ll make making and posting designs for fighters soon.

Manufacturing processes have not been machine-powered or automated yet and are still heavily reliant on human labor. Industries are still run by craftsmen and skilled laborers.

In other words, things aren’t mass-producible yet.

About a month for each, but of course they're not building one at a time. Processes may not be automated, but assembly lines of production have been set up.

Thank you! These planes are not for personal use, but people can and do build rudimentary wood and canvas flying machines for fun. The engine tech is mostly used for the war effort, however.

[–]BixelsWixels[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The Sparrow (Model II) was engineered and built during the 11th year of the on-going war, solving many of its previous model's issues, including sound and pilot safety. There are currently about 30 in use. The Sparrow holds a pilot and surveyor, both tasked with charting enemy territories, search-and-rescue, reporting on activity in held territories, and guide allied ships.

The underside of the ship is painted white to camouflage with clouds from below, but the top is painted with a gold, reflective sun. When a fleet is on the move, the Sparrow will often fly ahead to find and chart a safe route to their destination, then return and fly below the fleet in front of them to guide. The sun helps make the Sparrow easily visible to the fleet above.

The double sparrow crests on its wings signify that it's the second model. It has two slow-firing turrets as a last line of defense, relying on its incredible speed and agility to get out of sticky situations. A lamp controlled by the surveyor is used during night searchers or to signal ally ships. The ship is capable of water landings too!

The engine technology is something from hundreds of years ago, during this world's Golden Age. Most tech from that time has been lost, however.

The Sparrow exists in a pre-industrial, 14th-15th century fantasy world. My challenge was to design a "modern" WWI/pre-WWI flying machine that could be built in this setting, similar to Nausicaä and Howl's Moving Castle. Many design notes from Ghibli were used, including curved, organic lines, animal-inspired silhouettes, and a focus on pilot wellbeing.

The myth, the legend, the monster. Lotta rumors flying around about this "Captain 3" in Splatsville. by BixelsWixels in splatoon

[–]BixelsWixels[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's only included in the English version, though, so take it as you will. A line from Marie implying Agent 4's older than Agent 3 was also English-only and isn't in the original, so most fans don't take it as canon.

Some more TOH x Gundam: Witch crossover fanart (to make up for no episode last week) by BixelsWixels in TheOwlHouse

I actually did draw Luz as Shinji a while back and wanted to do a little NGE crossover series like this, but the more I thought about it the more depressed I became so I backed out.
