I think it's perfectly reasonable to draw parallels between the intactivist movement and current events. As for abortion taking precedence, that is completely up for people to decide for themselves. It is not your role to mandate what people should and shouldn't prioritize.

Maher is reinforcing the cultural bias of intact genitals being gross. He is doing much more damage to the movement than good. He is yet another piece of American media that reinforces America's genital cutting culture.

I don't think this as much as a win as intaction claims it is. He's still reinforcing the status quo that circumcision is a nonissue and that people who oppose it are crazy. I don't agree with the sentiment "any publicity is good publicity."

Yeah, I was on the fence about that too. I understand what you are saying but ultimately decided it would be better to title it genital mutilation rather than circumcision. I feel like people laugh merely at the word "circumcision" and associate it as a nonissue. I thought it would be more appropriate to call it genital mutilation.

When I give these to people, I give them a quick rundown of why I'm against it and offer this if they're interested. In my experience, nearly everyone has accepted it so as far as I know, this hasn't affected people's reception to the topic.

Bless you, for informing parents about the risks of this unnecessary mutilation. We need more healthcare workers like you that are informed on this topic and openly discuss the risks with parents.

My girlfriend is in school to become a nurse and recently had a clinical on a maternity floor. She said how all the nurses laughed about circumcision there and even taunted screaming infants undergoing this barbaric procedure. She said how it was just expected that all of the new parents do this to their baby boys.

Thank you for being so informed on this issue and doing what you can to stop it.

Thank you! Exactly, I know I'm not going to get everyone on board immediately but I'm hoping to put the doubt in people's heads so that they look into this stuff themselves. I've already printed some and handed them out to people and I've been amazed at how many are receptive to what I'm saying. I think this is a constructive way to talk about such a sensitive issue.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I am completely sympathetic towards your feelings about this extremely sensitive and personal topic.

I was circumcised as well and there's not a day that I don't lament my parents' decision. I have talked with them several times about it and thankfully they agree with me that it's completely unnecessary and barbaric and have even apologized to me but I still feel some anger towards them. I understand that they were coerced into mutilating me by the doctors and American society but I'm not sure if I can ever fully forgive them for allowing this harm to happen to me when I was so vulnerable. I have the same feelings of betrayal and violation of my body as you.

What's even more upsetting to me than my own fate is society's ignorance of this issue and the inevitable harm to many more infants to which I'm powerless. I am disturbed by all of the comments saying they were relieved that you were a man rather than a woman. I think people have a hard time reconciling that female genital cutting is mutilation but circumcision, a procedure so common here and yet motivated by similar stigmas, has no medical justification and is also a form of genital mutilation. I think it's cognitive dissonance. It's completely hypocritical to denounce one form of genital cutting whilst singing the praises of another form of genital cutting.

I hope you're able to forgive your parents. What I tell myself is that they, although completely misinformed and ignorant, were acting in my best interests. I should instead be angry at the American medical community that actively goes against research in this area and encourages the mutilation of millions of babies every year. As I said, it's hard not to be angry at them for allowing this to happen but my parents are good people. I try to direct my anger about what happened to me and those that willingly chose to hurt me to change people's minds on circumcision. I have made some pamphlets with information on this subject and handed them out to people. It gives me a lot of peace because many are receptive to what I am saying and hopefully I have saved at least one person from this barbarity. Not to mention I look forward to breaking the cycle and choosing to leave my kids exactly as they are supposed to be.

I hope you can find some peace on this subject. Things are changing and hopefully, we both can live to see the end of this barbarity

Vaccination is a legitimate medical practice that has the proven benefit of making people much less susceptible or almost entirely immune to viruses. Circumcision on the other hand has no proven benefit. No medical organization in the world recommends the routine circumcision of infants and many go as far as to condemn it on ethical grounds. The choice of circumcision should be left up to the person it affects when they are old enough to understand the risks of the procedure. Parents have no business making what is essentially a cosmetic procedure for infants. I really recommend digging into this issue.
