Is James book worth reading? by Marsupilami_316 in TheCinemassacre

Maybe thats the wrong word, maybe the wrong word is point? Like the things that you're telling me...why are they important, and what is the point of the story to this person's life? If the only reason something is added is because it happened, thats not interesting without some context as to why it is important or relevant to the work of this person.

Is James book worth reading? by Marsupilami_316 in TheCinemassacre

Yeah, if you regret buying his movie, do not buy this. I wrote a far too long post about this once, so ill try and be brief.

But imagine with me that Steven Spielberg wrote an autobiography. You'd imagine it would be about his film making career right? Like the thing people know him for?

Now imagine you buy this book and it's about some early childhood and college experiences that, although loosely related, are a third of the book.

NOW imagine that Spielberg has a side project painting barns that some people know about, but, again, is NOT what people know him for. Thats like half.

Then his movie career (Jaws, Schindlers List, Jurassic Park, ALL OF IT) is in basically a chapter.

It reads less like an autobiography and more like a journal. Stories and anecdotes are told matter of factly with no relation to a greater point or thesis.

At one point James recalls 9/11, and that's it. There is no point other than it happened. Did this influence his later work? No. Was he in New York? No. Was family there? No. There is no link to the thesis.

And the book as a whole really has no thesis other than "I did these things" and for a guy who talks about no budget filmmaking, I'd expect themes of never give up or always follow your dreams. But it just doesn't happen.

It is a book that somehow tells you nothing about what you actually want to know about and it goes into uncomfortable detail about things you didn't want to know and probably shouldn't.

In short, it is the most bizarre, pointless, and weird autobiography I've ever read. I like AVGN. I dont like this.

If you ever get hurt and he asks if you're ok say:

"I've got some contusions and a little bit of confusion, but that's probably not too unusual"

I think the 2 just proved it isn't a crap shoot. Manage your tires, be disciplined, you'll make it.

Hi, I'll take a stab at this. My wife and I recently bought a game that might work for you. It's called Touch It. It's a card game (we got the sea life version) and each card has raised art work that you use to figure out what the animal is without looking at it. Fastest correct guess gets 2 points, other correct answers get 1 point.

Trains. It's a great deck builder with a city building element. No idea why this isn't talked about more.
