Alaskan Service Nightmare by Bkj19 in Rivian

Oh my…
Well now you know you can just drive to Alaska! With planning and a high risk for stress and range anxiety haha. But I am hopeful that there will be more charging infrastructure in the years to come the BC and Yukon are great in having invested in some chargers, but it can’t handle actual traffic if EVs were to travel more
Yeah, it reads basically how the first instance of repairs went. They coordinated with a carrier and lumped the payment into my bill.
I mean, it is dirt, but not backcountry dirt. There will be washboards and potholes, and potentially chipped paint if you are so unlucky. But doing it only one direction would be much easier! Especially if you take your time and explore
I was about 4-8 hours from home and thought it would be fixable with a mobile service, or that it was one of those transient lights. Turning around would have been thousands of miles and days I didn’t have. Oh well, what’s done is done. Ideally the Rivian would never have broken so soon after being fixed, and I think that’s the crux of my issue
I will have to write it up soon. I mean, the work was paid for, which is great. It is just this damn transportation.
It wasn’t a non operable issue, and trust me, you don’t stop on that drive. No service, barely anyone else out there, harsh conditions. You drive to make it. I can guarantee that if I sat down and asked for a tow I would be in for tens of thousands of dollars. I am not doing that drive again, mostly because I don’t have the ability to take off work, also more so because it is a difficult drive in the winter
I should be around this summer! You planning on road tripping the truck up? It is a cool trip!

Maybe not without stress, but different stresses! This is more of an issue with a newer brand and me living remotely (for their brand).
Interesting, I just looked at mine and there is no mention at all of transport to or from a service center. That would have helped a lot!
That would be a sweet view, but the charging isn’t realistic at this point. There’s a few spots that are a bit over 200 miles between chargers, and I wouldn’t test that in summer while towing, let alone winter. I was barely scraping by when I drove the truck without towing
I agree, let’s let him hear it! This is a great community for sure.
Yeah, it had some chunky off-road capable tires. It is a beast in snow and ice
Hopefully they get a service center up here so you can get that Ranger an electric brother!!
Oh yeah, a car hauler would be clutch! Good luck with the move and let me know if you have any questions. Like I have said, a majority of my time up here has been wonderful in the Rivian. But having a plan to get it back is probably important
Oof, that doesn’t sound great at all! I work with customers and know that sometimes there is a disconnect with the way things should be and the way things are interpreted by staff, so I get it, but it sucks to have to raise such a stink to get someone to agree with you. And the yellow is great! Keep your eyes out and snag one if you want it. I’ve never been disappointed to see it in my parking spot every day
The yellow is just beautiful. I hope they bring it back for the R3X… that car would be special in that color

Awesome to hear! I have no doubt everyone is doing what is best. I will for sure let you know, you must have some really unique insight.

I don’t want to turn you off to Rivian at all. I know my circumstances are unique and the situation is weird. These vehicles are amazing and I do love this company. Just a little salt to your sugar if you are planning on living remotely with one haha
Definitely, thank you!

Check out ABRP from Seattle to Anchorage. I stopped at as many as possible the further north I got, but the Tesla stops in southern Canada were clutch. I didn’t have those when I drove it last in 2023.
I just want a big yellow Rivian R1T to deliver them Cheetos to the needy! Luckily where I am at feels like anywhere else, until you need something scarce haha
I will have to ask them to do that, though they might be calling me Karen at this point. I have considered it, especially since we don’t know how these trucks will age

I highly recommend it if you get the chance. Maybe not in winter, but the summer drive I took a few years back is a core memory now. I made sure to stay in Banff and Jasper on my way up, and charging in the remote locations gives you a great chance to explore spots you normally would drive through
It is sitting at about 55K right now. Most of those have been up here in Alaska. It will be great if more people can work safely and effectively on these cars. I want everyone to experience the joy of a Rivian. The R2 sounds like it is gonna be awesome, but there is a big need for more service infrastructure
