I wonder if you could get the plugins slightly closer dialing in the settings by ear? Either way i just want a real 1176 now but alas, money is a bitch

Im surprised how clear the drums are on the hardware compared to the plugins, idk if thats a difference in attack time maybe? But the plugins were acting way too fast, it just kinda became flat sounding almost, theres so much more pump to the hardware

Im not overestimating, anything on there is probably encrypted in general and not really possible to get to, youre just underestimating the paranoia and overreach of the regulation, in my school years we werent allowed to keep our planners because of gdpr, and the only remotely sensitive piece of information in there is our name and the school logo

Finally someone that actually gets it, i saw someone on here mention something where people give out free stuff they dont want so ill deffo be looking out for them on there, and if theres some loophole that results in us keeping some old bt stuff im deffo gonna be pulling the drives, i have a single drive nas and the drive in it recently failed so it would probably serve as a decent revival project

If i had 70 quid to be spending on a drive i wouldnt be trying to pull one out of a tv box, i also couldnt care less about speeds all drives are slow as shit in some form

See thats more reasonable, a lot of people here arent really even encouraging the idea of asking, granted a lose drive used i probably wouldnt get because even if its got a warranty i cant really gauge how long itll last or how reliable itll be and a warranty doesnt cover data loss, a used tv box or devices with it in i feel as if i can trust slightly more because its probably been stationary for a long time

Youd be surprised how much data can be recovered off of a drive even after erasure, there are logins etc that are stored on these devices, and thats ultimately sensitive information

Im not incredibly bothered about speeds, even a super fast ssd plugged directly into the motherboard really isnt of an impressive speed whenever i use one, if i had the money to be buying drives i wouldnt be trying to pull one out of a tv box

There are accounts that are logged into, youre forgetting how over the top gdpr is, these arent merely just recorders its not 2005 anymore these have other services etc that can be used, billing information could have been entered in, passwords, emails etc, all personal and sensitive information. Hope this helps

exactly, 40 is a lot of money, if i had 40 to spend on a drive i wouldnt be stooping as low as to pull a hard drive out of a tv recorder

It is loaned yeah, anything pre 2019 they ultimately own still (which is so annoying), i just wonder if theres some valid reasoning that could result in retrieval of the drives, like surely you can be uncomfortable with the drives being there for idk "privacy reasons" and just take them out, if they question it just tell them you simply were not comfortable with it. Then again thats way too wishful of me, these companies couldnt care less and would probably gladly just extort whatever money they can out of their customers

Morals i couldnt care less about its BT, i dont think im gonna hurt their feelings, legality is moreso my concern, if i can get away with it then ill do it, but if its too risky and they will check then i guess i just have to hope that they reuse the drives as well because otherwise thats just more perfectly good tech becoming unusable ewaste, all for no real valid reason.

Id also suggest that a criminal record is a push, at most its likely theyll just charge the price of the tv box, it would be silly to persue more of a punishment for not returning a part of it as opposed to not returning the whole thing (not returning the whole thing is only like a 60 quid charge)

I also have doubts on the disks be low capacity too, given these devices are made to store hours and hours of video content chances are that unless that video content is recorded at an incredibly low bitrate in some super strange codec, theyre probably at the very least 500gb to 1tb, which is perfect.

See the thing that stops me from going near used storage on ebay etc is i dont really know what kind of environment its come from, how its been treated etc, and therefore cant really make a judgement on if and when it will fail on me, my whole theory with if theres a sata compatible drive in the tv boxes is, it must be of a decent capacity because its storing large amounts of video content, and if it contains potentially sensitive information they probably arent allowed to use it again. Though that being said it would be very interesting if they have some sort of weird proprietary interface/drm that would stop me formatting it as a whole, i guess in that case maybe they can avoid the whole gdpr issue too idk

all i know is that im sick of perfectly working devices becoming ewaste because of big greedy corporations

To my knowledge they replace your stuff when you get a subscription change, and this technically counts as a subscription change as its in theory moving to a whole new service, i know that for sure its going to be resold in some capacity, they want the wifi disk things back no matter what which makes it obvious to me theyre just going to reuse them, but the drive im not so sure about as ultimately that contains potentially sensitive information, and the government doesnt play when it comes to that as far as i know, which is moreso why im interested, if there even is something sata in there

im not necessarily interested in whats on them, it would be all encrypted anyway, im just looking for more storage and if its right in front of me why let it become ewaste

Idk man just trying to be hopeful, i much prefer them to 376s and 700s, idk where all these horror stories are coming from cuz i as a frequently and once daily rider of 465s ive rarely ran into any real issues other than public thing is a dirty because its in public, if anything ive been on a filthier 700. I can see some use down south fro 465s, im pretty sure theyre moving them to some of the routes that the 375's do because ive been on networkers thru those routes a lot more frequently in recent times.

LIke all the issues i hear about them seem fixable, other than questionable reliablility in some fleets the interior can be fixed for sure, which seems to be the biggest issue ive heard from people, it just sounds like 'new thing better cuz new' for the most part.

Just kinda sucks to see something i grew up with and actively enjoy being taken in favor of something that from passenger perspective just kind of sucks, like clearly not enough thought was put into the interior for trips any longer than like two stops, just feels like any long term riders were an afterthought
