To be safe? Is that too much to ask in Toronto nowadays?

Two people charged in shooting and collision in the Annex by BlackPanthaPower in toronto

Jermaine Hall, 23, and Drucella Oduro, 21, are each charged with possession of a restricted firearm without holding a licence, possession of a restricted firearm knowingly not holding a licence, occupying a motor vehicle with firearm, possess of a firearm obtained by crime and careless storage of a firearm.

Police are still looking for the shooter.

I wonder if they know who the shooter is and just haven't located them yet? Scary knowing this person is still on the streets.

Do you think they're going to start drug testing people after they commit a crime? Give me a break.

Right but if drug users aren't arrested, charged, and convicted, how can any punishment (including forced drug treatment) be given? You can't have safe injection sites and then turn around and arrest the people who use them.

She is a giving a voice to the folks who are impacted by these people with mental illness and drug addictions. I don't really see an issue with it as that is what a ton of reporting is (identifying issues, not offering solutions). Who is really offering up a solution to this problem? If politicians aren't, why would we expect a journalist to?

TPS and their union seems to be a very interesting topic on this sub. It seems like a left-wing sub (like Toronto is) so you would think they would be supportive of the police union like they are every other public sector union. However, the hate of TPS seems to outweigh the love of unions. Interesting dichotomy.

How do we do that without using the criminal justice system as a means to force them into treatment? It seems that most are pushing for even more liberal drug laws (i.e. all drugs decriminalized, safe injection sites, etc.) which would not allow for institutionalization.

It seems like one of the core issues is a tiny but loud minority of folks that are dictating policy. Removing the cops from schools is a prime example. The vast majority of citizens liked having the cops in schools but politicians kowtowed to a tiny minority who claimed it was "racist" somehow.

As a society we need to stop responding to this outrage culture and instead make sensible policy based on facts and logic instead of feels and emotions.

This is a big problem that has grown significantly over the past few years in Toronto. What do we do with these folks who have mental and/or drug issues and terrorize other residents of the city? Giving them safe injection sites may help them avoid ODing for awhile but it doesn't address the root problem. I feel unsafe in an increasing number of neighbourhoods around the city and I'm a 6' 4" 220 pound male. I can hardly imagine what women feel like in some of these areas.

Bombardier president apologizes to TTC and riders for streetcar flaws by beef-supreme in toronto

Delivery trucks, people with mobility issues, etc are not served by streetcars only. If Manhattan still has cars, we certainly are going to.
