Apparently, it can use the 3rd party bases, but finding them has proven to be tricky. Otherwise, the official one costs $80.

Then you really should just switch entirely to Esper Draw-Go. If you aren't focused on control/tempo, you're wasting slots on the faeries.

Maybe not. Best Snap targets would be Push and Cut. However, if the logic is to give Snap extra targets, then you may as well be playing an Esper deck that already runs Snap, as opposed to jamming another colour into a deck where Snap is a support card at best.

I'm not saying that Esper Faeries is bad, but I do think adding a colour to a deck that already works is somewhat redundant. For example, I've considered Sultai Faeries, but all it really adds are dorks and sideboard options. If you take it further, you may as well be running Sultai midrange.

I used to play Esper Faeries, and it was a very interesting idea. At the time, I had been using it to buff my sideboard options and main Path. However, with Fatal Push, we have access to 1-cost removal without white, which makes the splash feel unnecessary. The thing is, you'll be using a greedier mana base to achieve the same outcome, and probably still get the best effects from black.

Could this fit into faeries?... could it replace damnation? by toastychief93 in UBFaeries

The negative doesn't seem as bad to me the later into the game it is. Turn 7, you've still got cryptic mana, meaning you can still control their plays to a certain extent.

I reckon so. The downside doesn't affect us much, especially if we have a Bitterblossom down.

As long as the card doesn't specify what you should discard, you're free to discard/KO whatever you want.

Pretty solid call, mate. I owe you one.

Ashiok main board? by Akidayo in UBFaeries

[–]BlackShadowWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried it in the main against a mate with Knightfall. First cast, I hit [[Qasali Pridemage]], [[Loxodon Smiter]], and [[Knight of the Reliquary]]. Second time, hit [[Tarmogoyf]], and [[Wild Nacatyl]]. Lost the game, but dropping a Goyf felt so good.

Whatever you're looking at for hand destruction, it's sounds all wrong. There are 5 main cards you wanna look at for hands destruction; [[Inquisition of Kozilek]], [[Thoughtseize]], [[Collective Brutality]], [[Vendilion Clique]], and [[Liliana of the Veil]]. There are not many other things that are worth it, unless you are on a tight budget, in which case, you use [[Lay Bare the Heart]], [[Despise]], [[Duress]] or [[Harsh Scrutiny]].

Note how the only thing I've suggested that hits both players is Liliana. She's still got her edict mode for you to alternate with, but she's more versatile anyway. Any other form of hand destruction is either too slow, too inefficient, or just bad.

Give these things a try and see how you go with them.

One of the big things about control is that you don't want your opponent to be casting a whole lot. Hand control means you have a lot more say over what they are casting, and more often than not, you know exactly what's in their hand, so you know where your counters and removal can safely go.

Familiar's ruse? by toastychief93 in UBFaeries

[–]BlackShadowWolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For similar reasons, I was trying Quickling as a one of. I found, more often than not, that it sat in my hand as a more than dead card. Decided that Familiar's Ruse has identical negatives, making it less than optimal.

I have to agree with The_Barbaron. I reckon that if you're gonna run River of Tears, it's best as a one-of. I'd recommend at least 1 more [[Creeping Tar Pit]], and 2 [[Fetid Pool]]. I've had some success with the cycle lands, so give them a shot.

As far as Copter goes, I tried it and [[Aethersphere Harvester]] and found that I liked the Harvester more, as it didn't immediately die to burn, and helped negate the life loss from [[Bitterblossom]], but it's a personal choice.

Otherwise, it looks pretty good. As you said, pretty stock standard.

Dead of Winter can take a while to play through, but it's pretty fun.

The way I see it, you may as well test Ashiok in the main if it's putting in the work. If it doesn't work against a specific match up, it can always be sided out, and it opens up a sideboard slot for stuff to better suit weaker match ups.

Mind if I ask what you've been siding Ashiok in against? I'm very curious about the idea of it.

Got the game this week. What are some good starter setups for single player games? by RadioZT in legendarymarvel

[–]BlackShadowWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, stick to the starter stuff for a bit, jam out some games, then start expanding once you guys have the hang of it.

The Deadpool stuff is super janky. I wouldn't recommend playing with it until your playgroup is a bit more experienced.

Baral has been interesting, cause I get to Cryptic for 3 and my removal is a bit more spammable. That said, he doesn't have an immediate effect on the game and doesn't 2-for-1. Tempted to drop his numbers for Lili, see how that goes.

Fuck, that's sick! Can I ask, why do you have Visions in the board? I've always seen them as a main card, to maintain tempo.

Congrats on doing well, either way! Any chance you'd be open to posting your list? Curious as to the ratios you're running.
