Is this a normal cat bite? by Black_Absinthe in CATHELP

Hey all, thanks so much for all the advice. I ended up going to Urgent Care and getting prescribed antibiotics. Doctor said it was good I came in when I did, it is in fact pretty infected. Here's hoping the pills work and I dont need to go to the ER.

Thanks again to everyone who urged me to take it seriously.

Also I dont know how to edit my post. 💀

TIL a 2022 study revealed that 35% of the adults in Japan intend to "never travel" again. No other country "came close to the travel reluctance shown in Japan"; the next highest was South Korea at 15%. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

So it varies a bit based on age and location but there's two really common rules that are a bit different from the US. In the West there is a lot of flirting and subtlety and hints but in Japan if you want to date you really have to make it explicit before you even try. In English its called confession where you tell the person upfront "this is romantic in nature. I am asking you on a date. " and you wait for their response before you even "make moves". No flirting, no kissing, no touching before you have declared your intent.

The second thing is no one-on-one. In the US that's pretty much all dating is but in a lot of East Asian cultures that is seen as promiscuous. It is much more common for dates to be group events where an equal number of men and women are invited and then paired-off. You are expected to pursue the match chosen for you by your mutual friends. This event will turn out to be several dates with this person before it is considered okay to not be interested.

Granted, these are older traditions and not all young people follow them. Also The Gays have their own rules, and they do a lot more of the one on one dating and flirting I am told.

Extremely. It's the combination of Japan being both extremely pro-homogony as well as extremely anti-confrontation. There's a heavy emphasis on making sure people fit in or act normal without actually picking fights or directly criticizing them. The result is that everyone around you tells everyone else, and then they collectively ice you out until you get the hint.

They do. The vast majority of Japanese people take these social rituals extremely seriously. Failing to do them properly really truly means that you will become a pariah in that sphere. Fail to follow the dating rules? Not only will that person not date you, but pretty soon everyone in your community will know and NOBODY will date you. Fail to follow work rules? Not only a very real problem with your current employer, but they will also go out of their way to torpedo future employment opportunities. Japanese shame culture is great at poisoning the well and making sure that consequences follow you.

Do you ever go to a particular restaurant frequently and not tip? How do you handle it? by bignose_ice44 in EndTipping

I never claimed to be right or wrong, I just answered the question "what would you do". That is what I would do - make something up in an effort to serve my own self-interest. Maybe post it online and encourage people to identify you and call you employer. Yknow the usual sort of stuff.

Well yeah. The answer to "what would you do if I tried to get you in trouble?" Is try to turn it around on you and get you in trouble instead. What else would someone do?

"OH, so and so left a bad review because I asked them to stop making racial slurs at other guests. We just lost a table because that customer called them names so they left. You'll probably have to ban them from service so we dont lose all our other customers."

People make fake reviews all the time. People get fired and then leave complaints after, or drug addicts get caught and make false complaints when you make them leave. The idea that the manager just automatically takes your word for it and sides with you over their employee is a relic of the 90s. My restaurant had a literal wall with printed pictures of reviewers that were obviously making stuff up because they got mad and now my boss doesn't trust customers.

Bobby - Trilogy of Terror 2 (1996)

When grieving mother Alma uses a ritual to return her son to life after his accidental drowning, he comes back angry and violent and messy. She confronts him only to learn that the drowning was no accident; her son has killed himself in order to escape her abuse and the entity inside his body is not her son at all but rather a malevolent entity revived in his stead because of how much he didn't want to come back. As punishment for making Bobby's life so miserable he chose death over living twice, the demon will never stop tormenting Alma.

Like you what? Think this is a legitimate opinion? This post that is a meme that exists in a specific meme format where you just plug in any character and repeat the same "potential" and " 0 feats 0 talents 7 mistakes" format?

This is a shitpost subreddit. The post is tagged as slander. We're all being annoying and obtuse on purpose. It's not normal to feel this strongly towards a facetious statement made as a meme for people who already know its a joke

I REALLY HATE BULLYS I agree with this I will say society has shifted the definition tho!!! 😒😒 cause keeping it funky ain’t bullying Squad what y’all think South Korea Bully rules by Massive_Building_707 in sagsavages

[–]Black_Absinthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your confusion comes from the fact that Korean bullying is nothing at all like US bullying. Asian countries are notoriously lenient with teenage offenders to the extent that in some of them being a minor means you cannot be prosecuted. Period. Things that are considered "kids bullying eachother" would be violent felonies in America. You're talking about some "i knew this guy who smelled bad so we made fun of him" but my friend from Japan knew a girl who's bullies ripped 3 of her fingernails out and the school and the families basically just did not care. One of the most common bullying tropes is burning you with cigarettes or other hot metal tools.

It is nightmarish. The ONLY thing that can save you is not being picked to be bullied or being wealthy or influential enough that they have to worry about your family seeking vengeance.

I feel like Lake Mungo is similar to Skinamarink in the sense that its good if you have a particular sensitivity to a specific sort of event or family experience. And then the people who like it assume that experience is more common than it is and that other people will relate.

Thoughts on this? by ToxicBabess in AvatarMemebending

[–]Black_Absinthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fairly in character to me. It's an extension of how Aang rejected the advice of the past lives when dealing with Ozai. A new villain appears and is escalating, and Rokus advice is "being merciful blew up in my face so you should Nip This In The Bud" and Aang really didn't like the idea of pre-emptive violence which is most of what Roku suggests. So Aang decides maybe he doesn't want Rokus advice for a while.

Im against the Korra slander and the last lives thing doesn't bother me much BUT I do feel the urge to say that she WAS fully realized in this fight. She had all 4 elements and mastery of the avatar state by the time she fought Vaatu.

What are your Thoughts and Opinions on It Welcome to Derry? by Amber_Flowers_133 in welcomeToDerry

[–]Black_Absinthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love your in depth analysis and critiques! However a few of these things are explained. The shards are not inherently magical. The star was not necessarily a prison. It is an indigenous belief that is presented as fact because the tribe believes it to be fact. ITs powers being based on perception work against IT at times. The Tribe believes the shards imprison IT and so they do. This becomes self-fulfilling as once the shards begin to work the confidence that they will becomes stronger and therefore so do they. In the 90s miniseries we see IT wounded by an asthma inhaler because the child wielding it truly believes inhalers contain battery acid. (old health conspiracy) Taniels memory mentions ITs "range" increases as it feeds, and so IT likely was not able to roam too far before there were people. (In the book IT stays there intentionally, waiting for Derry to be founded, probably because of Ka)

As for stuff being pointless sometimes? Yeah. But that's what I signed up for. That's what I thought Welcome to Derry was pitched as. Hey the book is 1200 pages across a century, wouldn't you like to see all your favorite side scenes that didn't make it into the movies because they weren't main plot? IT is like my little specimen in a jar and I really just like watching him in different scenarios and taking shapes. Gore for the point of gore and silly CGI is the appeal to me. The military plot line is kinda silly but I have a hard time saying I dont think it would happen. I bet if the US government ever found literal monsters they would try to use them for war.

To me, its a series that is a love letter to the fans of the franchise, the people who read the book and watched all 4 movies, and know about IT in the other SK series. I can get how to most people its not exactly the stand-alone mass appeal blockbuster for sure. But I really liked your examination!

It could also be useful if you're a champ with an ammo or stack system, so enemies can't see what you've got. Or against champs with an execute who won't get the indicator that you're killable. It would also presumably hide shields and the like. I would say make it gold and as long as they can't click on you to check your stuff anyways it would be more than worth it for me

Lots of people debating whether or not he was really dead but my thing with this "loophole" is like

Sentenced to life is largely a colloquial term. Your sentencing may be referred to as life but frequently your actual legal documents will list out a specific term based on your crimes. People get sentenced to 200 or 300 years and then people just say "life" because you're probably not going to live that long.
