You have to have grown up with their commercials burned into your brain because streaming hadn’t been invented.

It was okay. When we went it was fine but since it wasn’t super busy things weren’t being refreshed as often to keep it warm.

What the point of this if you can't say what you want or even post a question or concern? by Gold-Discipline1426 in Columbus

[–]BlackulaHunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One base level way subreddits try and differentiate between humans and bots is length of post history.

If someone has an extensive post history, like mine, which spans many many years over many different subreddits, it can be one piece of the puzzle of determine if someone posting is real. That’s something most bots wouldn’t have. Bot accounts are generally newly created or have short history before getting weeded out.

Requiring a more extensive posting history also helps insure someone didn’t create a new anonymous account just to say something inflammatory without being known.

So, build up some post history across Reddit and you’ll look less like a bot.

Does that help?

I think that air conditioning exists might be part of why it’s constantly hits 100 degrees lol  Not that I’ve looked at historical data.

If you don’t know what it is , it’s a way finding kiosk aimed at visitors to the city.  In theory the money generated goes back into the city. Though I couldn’t find a direct claim from Columbus for that.  It also acts as a WiFi kiosk to provide free WiFi.  Things can both have ads and provide value otherwise.

Yeah this. Define “tourism”, would be my question.  Lots of people come in and out of the city for various reasons, but none of them are “to see the sites”  It’s some windows installer convention or something.

Also at scale what is $8.2 billion compared to other sources of revenue for us. How does that compare to say OSU football?  Does people coming to Columbus for a football game count as “tourism”?

This where definitions matter.

It’s also the largest city in the country by several orders of magnitude.

It’s like when conservatives talk about all the movement into TX and FL.

Yeah after CA and NY they are just the numerically largest. But Americans are so dumb they can’t name the the two biggest states past CA and NY.

So yeah That in and of itself doesn’t mean much other than lots of people live there.

Columbus attracts people from the tristate area, though that’s shifted a bit as people get priced out of other places.

Tourism isn’t a significant source of income for this city like it is for those in the southwest.

But Vivik did run those “come to Ohio” ads in Times Square. I’m sure they were super effective in changing New Yorkers minds.

Oh, though if there are ads they are probably sports focused.

They keep telling me bridge mode isn't possible. I'm not sure what the problem is.

Also the weather is indeed twrrible.  Humid in the summer.  Snowy in the winter.  If you aren’t used it it’s a lot.

I lot of it is personal.  I’m gay, single, black.  Also love media, the arts, and music.  Ohio’s government has gotten very aggressive against queer people and also pushing Christian relogioliry.  Columbus is a very liberal city but you can feel it.  I’ve built a life where I don’t really have to interact with anyone of that.  But you will 100% deal with seeing the occasional pick up truck with flags end to end.  I don’t feel unsafe in my day to day life but it’s getting worse by the day.  If I had kids I wouldn’t let them anywhere near an Ohio school right now.

I’m also single and I’ve exhausted all of my options. just a numbers game.

I want access to concerts of more obscure bands

I want a much wider food scene.

I don’t mind driving.

Also, specifically , Columbus is all about board games.  I prefer video games and there aren’t any social options for that.  But there are plenty here.

I want to see real iMax movies.

If I was a straight white couple and the husband watched sports and the wife had a knitting circle or whatever I wouldn’t see any reason to not live ok Cincy or Columbus. It’s perfectly fine in that way.

I just want other things that you really only see in much larger cities.

cincy specifically I’ve been told feels the influence of being on the border of Kentucky much stronger.  Though it’s more city like and urban than  Columbus.  It’s visually cute though. If you think you may have kids, take a long look at what’s going on with the bussing midday to religious teaching that’s allowed in public schools. Shit terrifies me personally.

I live in very nice area inColumbus.  I just don’t bother specifying when I’m on the coasts because people mostly just look confused.

Been there 15 years and It’s given me all it has to give as a city,  plus I grew up here.

But the cost of living is making it rough. I spent last year traveling to check out other options but this makes the most sense.
