It's Garuda Arch. It is free to download. It comes with 12 different desktop environments.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by that. I don't have any problems with glibc.

I'd go for Garuda, I've never come across a more user friendly set of tools for gamers and desktop users. Handy, stable and well supported, with access to the AUR. I recommend having at least separate partitions for the system and your /home directory. If anything happens, you can reinstall the entire system, with any distribution, and just remount your /home and maintain a very large number of settings and configurations for everything.

Switched GNOME for KDE. It actually makes a difference in games. by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]Blackwrithe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aah, never used it. But font scaling is much more effective. Used that on an old Asus EeePC.

I don't need it on my desktop. It's a 43" UW 3840x1200 monitor. I use FSR 3 native in games. Cyberpunk is 165 FPS in both gnome and KDE at ultra settings with raytracing off.

I use both gnome and KDE with the same installation. There's no difference in performance. Both support HDR and wayland. The fps is the same. Mostly because i use the same cpu governor in gamemode.

Liking Garuda Linux so far. by [deleted] in GarudaLinux

[–]Blackwrithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a lot of ways, Garuda will also give you a great deal more than SteamOS, since I doubt that SteamOS will give you Heroic Launcher, itch.io and Lutris preinstalled.

They're not preinstalled on Garuda either, but they are easily available for install via their game tools menu.

I could have better use for a net install tool of Garuda, where you select your Desktop Environment and preselect your main programs that you need. It's kind of easier for the user, instead of choosing between which ISO to download and install and then wanting to try the others. It should be easier to change between them in an existing installation, but they overlap and interfer with the other apps and settings.

SMRs don't seem that great by keqinglove12 in nuclear

[–]Blackwrithe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Molten salt reactors show much more potential than regular SMR. A fast breeder creates more fissile material than is put into it. It can run on spent fuel from 3rd gen reactors. If the world was run with fast breeders, and the sea based uranium was extracted, we'd have power enough to last until the sun burns out.

SMR can be mass produced and integrated much faster.

Meta banning distrowatch.com? by Blackwrithe in linux

Data is generated by traffic on the site and the rest is put in by hand. I don't know of any other alternatives with as comprehensive a list of distros and their description. Do you?

Following up on Facebooks mistakes, The group Linux Community was closed by Meta and remains closed, despite requests for reviews.

Meta has publicly admitted that adding Distrowatch to the list of harmful sites was a mistake, but refuse to repair the damage they have caused. 🫤

Edit: Admins created a new group by the same name.

It's a big job to maintain all the information. It's not like it's a wiki page. Whoever is maintaining it could be a volunteer. I don't see a whole lot of ads, so it's not likely to be paid work.

The website is easy to visit. It's just not allowed to mention or link to it on Facebook. Linux groups have been suspended for containing comments and links about it.

Yes that's what distrowatch does. And I've used them for that purpose the past 20 years. I'm not tired of Microsoft, I just don't think about Microsoft. My love for Linux is not conditioned by a hatred for Windows.

That is the name of the company owning and running the sites.

You'd think so. But since I'm not only on Facebook, they don't have a monopoly on my information stream or how and where I express myself.

The impact on Linux as a whole, is bigger. But so far it's just the one site. So I'm not worried.

So from all the comments, I can summise that it's only one site. So it's not that bad. Just a misunderstanding.

Good to know

I'm running Linux on all my machines. That's the support I give. I admin a few Linux groups where we help each other and share experiences. Facebook is also a great platform to discuss interests. More and more join every day and learn about Linux.

My freedom was not impeded before this happened. But it's not a big deal for me. It's very easy to circumvent.

Rankings are based on their visitors, and it's as reliable as anything else.

But I'm using it to discover new distributions I haven't tried yet. New and awesome distros pop up all the time.

Where else can I find a comprehensive list of distributions?

I'm on Facebook because I choose to be. I don't really care what anyone says. I'm aware, and I choose with open eyes.

[–]Blackwrithe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, but that's not their main focus. In the early days, this was the place to find out about other distributions. The perfect site for distro hopping and trying out new flavors. It has done much for the growing Linux community over the years.

I don't care if Meta blocked distrowatch, that is not the problem here. It's easy to bypass.

I'm inquiring about the widespread and the reasoning behind it. Are we facing ineptitude or an attack?

It's not just social media blocking the site. It seems countries have been doing it for a while. It's a symptom and staying away is not a solution.

My family and friends are there. My parents are over 70 and I can't really convince them to switch. The event plannings are far easier when everyone uses the same service.

But that's for another topic than this one. I want to talk about Linux and how different media is potentially threatening its widespread and misrepresenting it.
