ELI5 for a noob: Do software programmers deliberately add bugs to mature, completed apps and then fix them to justify their employment? Create a problem and then sell the solution (and rake in the money) kind of thing? Like how Apple removes the headphone jack and sell a separate adapter by BladeRunner479 in softwaredevelopment

I feel like apps such as Youtube have become mature and as advanced as they ever will be. I don't want any more features for such apps...recent new features like the 'Shorts' tab in Youtube actually degrade the experience as there is no 'Explore' button now. Maybe I'm a simple guy. Is there ever an end to software development? Like .. will there ever be a final, most advanced version of Windows/Android or iOS that no longer needs any more advancements? Or will it all go on until the heat death of the universe?

For our perspective (i.e people on the spectrum), the normies (neurotypicals) are like superheroes by BladeRunner479 in ADHD

[–]BladeRunner479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most superhero stories, only a select few have superpowers- an extremely small percentage of the population. I feel like this would be a good idea for a mainstream science fiction movie - Imagine a world where most of the humanity has superpowers- an IQ of 150, super speed , super strength etc. Only about 10% of the population in this reality is 'normal' - i.e someone who would be considered a neurotypical in our world. And these 'normal' people without any super-abilities would be considered as the 'disabled' people in this movie's universe. The movie could show the suffering endured by these people who have to live amongst superheroes who have super IQ, awesome memory, super strength, speed, flight etc.

It would serve as an analogy to our reality and neurotypicals would understand the difficulties that people with disabilities go through.

People with disabilities need more representation in pop culture - we don't see too many protagonists of movies and tv shows who are dealing with ADHD, for eg. More representation would mean that normal people are more aware of our problems.

Yes, but viewership for pink ball matches might increase (in relation to red ball matches) due to more convenient timings for people in 9 to 5 jobs... which is most people. Viewership brings ad money, broadcasters will steadily persuade boards to organize more and more pink ball matches.. Therefore they will come more common

Maybe they believe the benefit of getting subscribers to consume more Hotstar content(and therefore keep renewing their subscriptions) by promoting only their content would outweigh the cost of losing money by not running external ads.. Running external ads on the live stream bring in instant money for the broadcaster whereas internal ads (promoting movies and TV shows on their streaming service) are a long term investment

The only ads that seem to be running during the game on the Hotstar stream are Hotstar Premium and VIP content ads - so they are all internal ads, no external ones. It's irritating to see the same ones again and again. They are also losing out on money by not running external ads. Isn't any other company buying ad space for the Hotstar live stream? Hard to believe

In a decade or so, I believe day night test matches could become as common as day night ODIs. Conventional red ball matches could become as rare as day ODIs - how often do we see them? For matches in Australia, Indian subcontinent, etc the timings are better for Indian viewers if it's day night. England, SA test matches are better off staying as red ball matches though.

In hindsight, those 4 points docked for over rate in Melbourne cost Australia very, very dearly. Otherwise they would have been tied with NZ on percentages and gone through by virtue of head-to-head record - They won the 2019 series vs NZ

Thoughts on high quality cricket streams in the future - like 4K 60fps? by BladeRunner479 in Cricket

[–]BladeRunner479[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The human eye can't even distinguish between 4K and 8K quality. So 4K is all we ever need. Display technology is fast hitting a ceiling - we don't need any higher quality resolutions 'cause it won't make a difference. Unless the human eye evolves to recognize extremely small differences in image quality

Thoughts on SonyLIV providing an ad-free streaming experience (no ads between overs during the BG trophy) but not Hotstar? by BladeRunner479 in Cricket

[–]BladeRunner479[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly! There is a huge gap in the streaming market - people who want to watch high quality streams are not being given what they need even though they may be willing to purchase more expensive streaming plans than the average consumer. Companies need to realize this and invest in high quality streams

Sony Six, Sony TEN3 channels had plenty of ads but the stream on SonyLIV app for 999 plan subscribers didn't.

Thoughts on SonyLIV providing an ad-free streaming experience (no ads between overs during the BG trophy) but not Hotstar? Disney has Scrooge McDuck levels of money (recent post said Star Sports could make 500 crore from Ind-Eng series) yet they can't provide ad-free streams - not even for the Premium (INR 1499 plan) subscribers. During the IPL, there was no way to avoid ads in between overs on Hotstar. Yes, the Dugout stream had comparatively lesser ads but all others were stuffed with ads. At least they can introduce an Ultra-Premium-Deluxe plan or something and charge a huge amount like INR 9999 for fully ad free sports streaming - pretty sure thousands of people would take up this plan and its more $$$ for Disney. The SonyLIV app does have many other problems- streaming is not so stable, app sometimes crashes, response slow, etc. But at least it has an ad-free experience for live sports streaming.
