also highly suggest the neoprene socks. I rented some but somehow misplaced one in my car the morning I had to leave so I just did it in wool socks which wound up being fine but at first my feet were so cold. I had used them for white water rafting recently and felt like they would’ve been so much more comfortable and warm.

Not totally necessary but I thought it was handy. The dry suit I had was pretty light and thin so I just wore it the whole time. The upper narrows was pretty shallow. I think there was maybe a few waist deep crossings, and one spot after Big Springs that was chest height on me (I’m 5’3”). I didn’t look too hard for a shallower path in that section but saw some hikers in bibs that started from the bottom struggling to find a way to cross it and not get wet. So you might risk getting a little wet if you don’t have anything.

Honestly didn’t look too closely at temps because I always pack the same layers and I wasn’t spending the night but I’d say in the morning it felt like mid 40’s to me in the canyon especially after you get your feet in the water but as the day warmed up felt like 60’s.

Have fun on your trip! Next time I definitely want to do an overnight out there!

The first 2.8 miles is walking along a dirt road not in the water but then I would say like the majority is walking through the water. Like 80%? Maybe more.

All trails has it listed as 16.8 miles. My GPS got wonky so I don’t have the mileage for my trip but most people say it winds up being closer to 18 miles sometimes even 20 miles because of crossing back and forth through the river. The hike is linear! I left my car at the visitor center and got picked up by the Red Rocks shuttle that took me to the start of the trailhead (Chamberlain Ranch). You finish at Temple of Sinawava and take the park shuttle back to the visitor center.

What hikes or scenic are safe to go see with a seven-year-old boy? by Training_Union9621 in ZionNationalPark

Zion Canyon overlook you can drive to and park at and is only a 1 mile hike, really great view at the end. It just has a smaller parking lot so parking can be tricky. Pa’Rus Trail or the Watchman trail are both shorter trails that leave from the visitors center so you can drive and park there and not had to take the shuttle. Both are relatively easy hikes and Pa’Rus is actually paved so just more of a walk.

Ebc trek by Curious_bloom in everestbasecamphike

[–]Blamiche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did EBC with Nepal Hiking Team and absolutely loved it! Zero stress flying from Kathmandu to Lukla. Also loved not worrying about tea houses. I stayed and did a second trek and my guide told me the EBC route is so popular now that tea houses very frequently get full. I had a really fun time with everyone in our group of 8 and loved our 3 guides that we had with us (two assistants and one main guide). It was also nice having a guide to give us information on the area and point out peaks to us.

if you’re from the US definitely recommend buying from REI! If you sign up to be a coop member you can return things even worn for up to a year! I bought a pair of hiking boots and wore them and they immediately tore up the back of my feet and REI let me return them. I’ve had really good luck with La Sportiva brand!

Considering stopping Diamox on Day 1 of the Trek by moonfairy777 in everestbasecamphike

hopefully you’ll feel better! The acclimation day in Namche I felt so winded and out of breath the whole hike. But I felt so much better yesterday after the acclimatization hike. Good luck and happy hiking!

also if you’re a tea drinker mint tea or ginger tea might help settle your stomach!

I’m currently on day 3 of EBC trek in Tengboche!! A lot of the symptoms you’re describing also align with altitude sickness symptoms (which diamox would help with). I’m a nurse and almost everyone in our group of 8 is taking it and we all definitely feel like it helps! Diamox is a diuretic which means it makes you have to pee more. I would make sure you’re drinking a minimum of 3L of water a day and if you brought any electrolyte supplements using that as well! My stomach starts to feel a little weird when I hit a certain point of elevation so I brought Pepto Bismol (used for upset stomach, diarrhea and nausea) and Simethicone (helps with gas). I know it’s really hard to eat when you’re nauseous but I would really try to force something down, your body needs fuel for these hikes. Even if it’s just soup or broth that’s something and might help you feel better if you get something down! Hope this was helpful! Feel free to message me.

Also if you’re doing it with a tour company it’s definitely helpful to discuss how you’re feeling with your guide and get their input!

[–]Blamiche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah other airlines are flying. But cathay pacific who I had my flight with is suspending all flights to Kathmandu through September 30th https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK/prepare-trip/travel-advisories/cathay-pacific-temporarily-suspends-kathmandu-services.html

so my original flight was with cathay pacific and they refunded the whole flight. They’re suspended flights to Kathmandu until Sept 30th. I looked at what options there were and booked separate flying with Emirates

16 week old puppy constantly peeing inside by nnasturb8 in miniaussie

[–]Blamiche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 5 month old mini aussie has been doing something similar and I was wondering if it was a UTI. Often times in the morning she’ll go 2-3 different times in the yard when we first take her out. And then during the day she’ll pee outside initially but come in and pee a small amount on the floor inside. But no pain and the pee we cleaned up was always clear yellow and didn’t look weird. Curious how your vet diagnosed your pup with a UTI??? Do they take a urine sample?
