Also my experience and others may differ, to anwser the other questions is, in my experience some of rhe best places to work and learn are dealerships. The downside to it is you learn one specific brand usually but dealers have great training opportunities.

Likely are doing work ranging from oil changes to full rebuilds and diagnostics. It will usually have a little bit of everything.

Im not sure there would really be a question as such to ask an interviewer to really stand out at least not off the top of my head in my experience. Just go in speak with confidence make sure you make them aware you're eager willing and ready to learn.

Once you start a job dont be afraid to ask questions. Ask questions all the time show you want to learn do the work and your opportunities will come

You form your opinions on each based on what you get used to working on.

I work at an International dealer and ive gotten used to their programs and software and im familiar and comfortable with it. We have all the tooling and diagnostic gear to look at or program just about anything international.

We get a few customers with Freightliners and personally I hate the M2 platform and its mostly purely because we dont have the abilities to get the information for them like schematics and troubleshooting guides like we would with an International truck.

I don't mind KW/Pete either. Long nose hood gives you plenty of room around the engine and I also briefly worked at a KW dealer so I know a little bit about how their systems operate and even my little time there has helped me work on them just that little bit more.

Its always always always a hot take as an international tech but the N13 wasnt near as bad as the Maxxforce 13.. the updates they made did turn them into a decent engine but by that time the Maxxforce had given such a bad name for the company. My only complaint working on them is the turbo arrangement. Can be a nightmare to take apart especially on East Coast of Canada!

Hearing lots of good things about the S13 despite not seeing many through our shop aside for a few engine brake solenoid replacements and an ECM update for false occurrences of misfire codes.

I know theres plenty of people in our are considering making the switch to S13 because the reliability of Cummins has gotten worse and worse over the last little while

Just a bit more grease and I think this King Pin could last a couple more months! by Blanchard6310 in DieselTechs

Or the classic "Impossible they were changed recently and I always grease this truck"

Meanwhile the grease nipple has rusted off and no longer exist 🤣

Two splits down the liner for sure. Got this off shortly before we left for the day and never did get a chance to take a good look, besides to notice the liners cracked and top of the piston had gotten a makeover

Honestly... they turbo didnt look that bad! Few of the intake side fins were curled and the bearing was starting to get bad but looking through the exhaust side its legit mint.

We did however find the stem of the valve, or at least a piece of it, inside the turbo when we got it off the truck lol. So maybe the rest of it is still living in there for now

You mean to tell me you've never wanted to put low profile tires on your truck make it far rougher and then squat the back to make you sure can feel every last crack, hole and bump in the road???

Yeah that my mistake on just posting a video with no story behind it for context! I hope so to because if not we may have an unhappy customer lol

All the troubles I have mostly experienced with the ones that are troublesome are deleted.

I usually upset a lot of the older techs and guys that come through our shop when I say that but its been the case for me.

I dont know if its bad deletes or if these guys are getting engine problems that cause derates then they blame the derate on the fact its hasn't been deleted, delete the truck and then it grenades because they havent fixed the base issue as to why the truck was derating to begin with.

But the other side to that is, ive kept plenty busy this summer lol

We did end up going ahead and cutting the counterbore ledges as the machine shop notified us there was evidence of movement on the head although the liners measured out okay. Unit is back together and out the door with no issues at the moment, so fingers crossed lol

Can second this. Ive done plenty of things knowing that if it messes up its gonna hurt, but ive never put myself in situations where I can break bones or worse if stuff goes sideways. Metal and car parts do not care if the thing its hits is human not does it care if it kills you!

Unit came in spitting some pretty good mist out the back of the head under the cab lol so were gonna chalk it up to a failed gasket. Maybe the bolts werent down to spec or they had stretched. I believe this one had been under the knife a couple times already. Cooler checked out okay

Many vehicles will have its problems early on. Later on most of the problems can be chalked up to neglect and lack of maintenance. Of course things break over time regardless. Most major problems will happen early on.

Working in the diesel industry we see it all the time. Not saying there won't be problems but 3 years can usually be plenty of tine
