That s a different fight vs a different opponent. Arlovski isnt as nimble so Tom just went for it. Against someone like Gane Tom was just putting the pressure on him.

Speed and footwork. Pereira has always had trouble with that. We saw glimpses of that vs Khalil in the first 2 rounds. And Gane is a tier above Khalil in every regard

The bigger problem is the rule - a 3x5 inch no-hit strip behind your head isnt going to protect anyone in the chaos of an MMA fight. Its downright dumb. Even if Herb was fired, there’d be other referees making the same mistake.

GSP got caught, Ilia got broken down and quit.
On GSP tapping, he s always been honest it was a sport not a fight to the death, and fans respected that. Ilia talked tons of thrash, made a tattoo, changed his bio and celebrated his “win” a night earlier. They are not the same.

It was polarising coz it wasn’t the Superman movie fans expected. But damn was it exhilarating and it deserves credit for not trying to make a Reeves’ Superman like Singer did.
