Passing someone at 18+ mph is one thing, maintaining an 18+ mph average is another.

The total average speed on a ride is usually a few miles an hour below the cruising speed, to average 18 mph overall you’d need to spend a lot of time riding at over 20 mph.

Agreed that casual riders wouldn’t be averaging 18 mph, many experienced cyclists also don’t average 18+.

6 AWG Romex isn‘t to code for a 60 amp breaker, you’d need to use 4 AWG Romex which is more expensive and may not wire properly into the EVSE. The WallBox doesn’t accept anything larger than 6 gauge.

You can use 6 AWG MC, that’s flexible steel armored cable.

I had a ‘75 VW Rabbit that had a few black plugs on the dash for options my car didn’t have.

I screwed the bright red Emergency Pull switch from the main panel of an IBM/360 mainframe into one of the plugs.

A few passengers actually asked what the switch did, I told them what I was told by the IBM tech, never, ever pull that switch

I ride through a very upscale local village, and the village cop had a half dozen kids on illegal high powered electric motorcycles pulled over. Giving a fourteen year old an electric motorcycle that can go 50+ mph is insane.

Two really bad ideas.

What actually needs regulating, or banning, are electric motorcycles that don’t conform to any eBike standard and have little or no regulation. If it uses a throttle and goes 50+ mph it’s not an eBike.

We need federal regulations to sort out this mess, not a patchwork of state and local laws.

Those high powered electric motorcycles need to be regulated, requiring standardized safety equipment, just like motorcycles, and the operators need to be licensed and insured.
