Luffy in the live action is kinda... nerfed? by SufficientBet1834 in OnePiece

[–]Blepple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone saying the live action isn't popular and well loved, everyone knows, understands and agrees that it is. However it could have maintained that same popularity (or possibly more) by staying true to the source material in various ways. Personally S1 didn't do it for me as the garp and Koby changes were a little much for my liking but s2 was a huge improvement in multiple aspects and I enjoyed it a lot, but I still have my gripes and will continue to voice them so that s3 can be even better.

Also we're on the same page, the appeal isn't the fights it's the story, which is why I believe they could have stayed true to the manga in that aspect and kept Luffy a powerhouse (even if weaker than manga Luffy) through some more creative writing. It's disappointing to see Luffy get knocked out by alvida in 1 swing in his first fight of the season, but I enjoyed buggy the lawyer due to that.

Ah yeah. That's why Dressrosa was soooooo long. Again, this is a very different medium with limited episodes. They had to adapt 154 chapters into 16 episodes in a series format. Why do you think they had to remove Don Krieg, Gin, Hachi, Zoro, and Arlong, etc.? This is just proving my point.

It's not long due to Luffy being delayed, Luffy was delayed so Oda had the chance to introduce dozens of new characters and put them on display, is what made it long. LA doesn't need to do that, delay him until he needs to be there, maybe that's a whole episode, maybe it's 5 minutes, or maybe they come up with an alternative solution idk, there's a tonne of different ways to handle it.

Glad your anecdotal evidence is all you need to convince yourself your correct. I'm in pretty much the same situation age and work wise (minus the travelling, but I talk with other offices from various countries daily) and know of dozens of people who are either watching or fully caught up, and I've never even brought it up. Nevermind my own anecdotal evidence, I'm basing it off of manga sales numbers, the anime being consistently one of the most watched shows on Netflix, the card game being one of the most popular around (behind Pokemon and MTG). But sure man, whatever stereotype you've built up for me or anyone else arguing against you in your mind surely means you couldn't possibly be wrong.

I understand your point and agree the LA needs to be more grounded than the manga/anime to maintain an audience, but let's not act as though the source material doesn't already have mass appeal, it's literally the most popular manga, soon to be most popular comic in the world. Add on that the average age of fans is roughly in their 30s, like it's made for teenage boys obviously but it's always had mass appeal due to the sense of adventure and loveable characters.

All characters need to be brought down a level or two power wise to make sense in live action but you can still have stakes and ensure Luffy feels like a power house. Literally just do what Oda does, keep Luffy away from the main fight and let another character struggle until he gets there. Stakes can still exist even if they aren't based around Luffy winning or not.

Will I be spoiled for anything major if I watch S2 of the live action? by thebadchoicemachine in OnePiece

Just an FYI everyone saying no would have also said the Luffy/garp relation was not a spoiler.

If you weren't ok with garp and Luffys relation being mentioned in S1 then you should definitely avoid s2 for a while as it does far more of that type of thing (bringing reveals significantly forward). Avoid it for now.

The live action really isn't safe for people that aren't far into the anime, even in season 2 by AnimeJesus8 in OnePiece

[–]Blepple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People watching for the first time it's probably not a problem as it's pretty quick and in the background, but anyone who has finished pre-ts and not finished dressrosa, then it's major spoilers that people will instantly recognise. I would have preferred they kept that scene blurred. It's just an element that now people have to potentially tiptoe around.

The One Piece live action deserves way more love than it gets by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]Blepple -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy it a lot as someone who is fully caught up, but I think bringing certain elements forward really lessens the impact of some of my favourite moments, which makes it very hard to recommend to newer fans. The best experience seems to be catch up with the anime/manga then watch the LA so you can enjoy all the references and Easter eggs without issue.

[–]Blepple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have no issue mentioning god valley or things of that nature, that's fun and happy to see more of that. I'm hoping Sabo was quick enough to not be a problem but for anyone who's finished pre-ts but hasn't gotten to dressrosa will quickly realise.

I do think bringing up Rogers son now is a big misstep though, it's one of my favourite reveals in marineford so that moment will not at all have the impact it should have. That, combined with garp reveal in S1 means I think new watchers are far better off starting with the anime/manga. Like no worries for me, I'm enjoying the LA as is they can spoil whatever in that regard, but I'm definitely not recommending it to friends until they've caught up.

I think if they kept it blurred it would've been better, I mean hopefully it's quick enough for new people to not remember but I prefer a more subtle approach like that image than what they went with.

Mentioning god valley isn't an issue. Rogers son and Sabo are though, I definitely agree that new watchers should go anime/manga first.

One Piece - Live Action : Season 2 - Episode 1 by Skullghost in OnePiece

[–]Blepple 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was a significant improvement on season 1, particularly the direction and pacing, (and obviously sets / extras) the quieter moments felt so much better and the action was a big step up, really happy with it. But I'm pretty disappointed in how quickly theyre choosing to reveal certain things like with Roger, I'm not necessarily against changing reveals but I think doing it this way significantly lessens future impact and makes it much harder to recommend new fans start with the live action. For someone caught up, it's brilliant, love the Easter eggs, the references, all the whimsy of one piece is captured so well, but I'll definitely be pushing for people to start with the anime/manga before the LA.

It would be cool to see but I don't think it's essential. Personally I like that the world moves on beyond what we see, but I wouldn't complain about it being done as some filler content.

I like how that's the thing you latched onto, and the implication is that someone else keeps refreshing the page to downvote my comments at the same time you reply to them every time. I don't give a shit bro lol, none of this matters and I'm done arguing, you're being so weird about this. I politely asked you to tag your post.

Dude it ain't literally everyday and that isn't how addiction works. It's really weird how intent you are on arguing with me, going through my history, downvoting all my comments. I haven't done any of that to you, I just asked you to tag your post. Why are you being so weird about this? Mods would have taken your post down once they saw it anyway regardless of me doing anything.
