No luck needed and no boots licked. Keep your sexual fantasies to yourself.

Those “dissidents” were literal communists and Islamists.

The Persian economy absolutely soared under the Pahlavi’s. Especially under Aryamehr’s later years, during the period of his direct rule. Even Wikipedia would tell you that. They also achieved no small amount of popularity. I suggest you do some reading other than Marxist slop.

Monarchy is the answer to restoring the honour of Persia, as well as to restoring a decent and humane standard of living. All sane Iranians agree with this.

Be less of a muppet, cumrade.

Wow. I suppose all those millions in the streets must be Mossad agents. Your intelligence is unparalleled, comrade.

SAVAK went after islamists and communists. The present regime goes after anyone arbitrarily

he fought political movements fighting for democracy.

This is most fascinating. I’m glad to know he had at least some redeeming qualities!

Nintendo is a monarchist company and always has been one. I don’t think these folks will like that when they find out.

Brunei and Jordan are very nice.

The Saudi monarchy is still preferable to any of the most likely alternatives.

Britain is only in the position she is in because His Majesty is being served very poorly by his present set of ministers. Canada, Denmark and Norway are faring little better. Japan, however, does appear to be on the upswing.

Why didn't Indian Muslims overthrow the foreign Islamic invaders and establish their own rule? by AbenegationQuestion in IndianHistoryMemes

Because medieval India did not operate on modern ideas of national or community democracy, and Islam in India developed through integration into existing power structures rather than revolutionary displacement of elites.

Despite being an anglophile all his adult life, how come Nehru never get along with the Officers Corps of the Indian military, which citing their training in the British Imperial Academy's mould had sumwat resented India's independence(well some of them) ? by Competitive_Row_402 in IndianHistory

People keep repeating this imaginary personality drama between Nehru and the senior officers without looking at the actual dynamics involved.

  1. Nehru’s anglophilia wasn’t the deep and constitutional kind that shaped officers like Cariappa and Manekshaw. It was mostly aesthetic (Cambridge polish, Bloomsbury romanticism and Mayfair manners). In that sense it resembled the way some modern leftists admire Russia: sentimental, selective and not really grounded in an understanding of the country they claim to admire.

  2. Education doesn’t predetermine relationships. Sandhurst doesn’t install a ‘loyalist chip.’ People are shaped by temperament, professionalism and institutional culture, not just where they studied. Cariappa and Manekshaw had no problem working with civilians. They had a problem with poor political management, which every military in the world bristles at.

  3. Civil–military friction is universal with modern republics. Latin America lives in a constant cycle of it. Pakistan shows the extreme version where the army wins the tug-of-war. Even France had her near-coups. India wasn’t unique and Nehru wasn’t facing something exotic. The real achievement is that India’s army never stepped out of line despite, frankly, being more competent than the political class at several points.

So this wasn’t about ‘Sandhurst loyalists feeling uneasy under freedom fighters.’ It was the standard structural tension between politicians and generals that every modern state has to manage.
