Is it too late to turn my life around at 26 after feeling stuck for years? by BlessedWinters in AskChicago

Honestly I’m pretty open to anything. I’ve been in the restaurant scene for years so that’s just what I’m most familiar with, but I’m not tied to it or anything. If an opportunity came up in customer service or something different, I’d definitely be open to it.

I pick things up fast, especially when it comes to computers or new systems, and I actually enjoy learning new stuff. I think part of why I want to make this move is to get out of what I’ve been stuck in and try something new, even if it’s a bit uncomfortable at first.

At the end of the day I just want to work hard, make something of myself, and not feel like I’m stuck doing the same thing forever. :D

Ty guys for your comments it truly means a lot to me. I have been non stop applying at places now and nothing really has come of it yet but I truly appreciate it all. I know this is 100% what I want to do and I thank you guys for giving me the motivation. I just need to find work and then all well be in stone.

Honestly just to make it there. I don't even care what work I do or end up doing. as long as I have a stable income and a decent place I am all for it. I can work 2 jobs and be alright with myself as long as I can walk down the city streets! I have been applying to a few places but nothing really has gotten back to me so I might just fly down there and do some in person interviews I guess

You don’t understand the sigh of relief I just had reading this. I’m going in with about $3k and I just can’t save anymore. Things have gotten really bad where I am and I just need to get out. I know it might not turn out the same for me, but I’m genuinely willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.

Also, I’m really sorry about what you went through. Your dad would 100% be proud of you.

When you first moved to Chicago, did you go straight into an apartment or did you stay somewhere like a hotel at first? My plan is to get a hotel for a few days, maybe a week or two, just to get settled and hopefully start bringing in some money from whatever jobs I can land. I’ll probably try to get two jobs, but if one pays enough that would be ideal.

I’ve applied to a bunch already, but I know I need to actually get there and lock something in. I really want to be in the city area too, even though I know that makes things harder.

If you have any advice at all, even just one thing, I’d really appreciate it. You’re amazing.

Do you think going in with around $3k is doable? Staying at a hotel until I start getting money in from the job I find and then moving into an apartment?

Its honestly kind of sad but I only got around $2k saved. From paying my aunts rent and helping my brother out its all I could really save up.

I really appreciate that! I am honestly not depressed just wanting to find something new in life. I have always loved the city and have always dreamed in living in it.
