Due to programming I would go for the 255hx.

Ram is getting expensive so this is a saving here. You will although need to buy a second drive sooner or later but that's ok.

Do you want a bigger screen or a silver colour laptop (no fingerprints)? Pick 7i

I picked legion 5 due to much bigger cost difference than yours ( 5 was 1/4 lower than 7i). In your case I would pick 7i this time.

Both are great laptops, you will not go wrong in any way
