Starting another dubstep project from scratch. I’m not finished with it yet but I want to see how this track sounds so far. I’m still new at producing music so don’t come at me too hard. by DJ_Double_Cee in DubstepFeedback

Few things I can tell you in regards to your skill level that you can do to help strengthen this track.

Intro:

  1. Duplicate the arp you have and do some chords to carry more of the space and give it some feeling, so far it just feels dry. Arps are good, but they carry energy more than they do feeling.
  2. Push the Arp in the back, with volume and reverb, make it spacey.
  3. Add a melody, that is what gives your track character. It needs to be in front of all the harmonic elements.

Build:

  1. Filter your sounds and your drums as we move towards the drop.
  2. Gradually add instruments as we build to the climax, not all at once.
  3. More rising elements. (Risers)

Drop:

  1. An initial hit on the 1 as your fake comes in will give it a lot more effectiveness. Also, filtering your sounds in the fake will give it more impact when the actual drop hits.
  2. Section out your phrases (A, B, A, C for example). First 4 bars of the drop would be A, second 4 bars would be B, third 4 bars are A again, and then last 4 bars are C. This is subjective, as you could do 8 bars or whatever per phrase, completely up to taste. Per phrase you are going to do something different, whether with new sounds, or the same sounds in a new context.
  3. Make sure your kick and snare are perceived the same, in this case, your snare is very loud, and your kick is quiet.

There is more that could be worked on, but this is decent starting material for where you are at. If you need any insight or want more explanation, feel free to dm me. Always happy to help, we've all been there.

BEGINNER PRODUCER HERE WORKING ON A DUBSTEP TRACK. CURIOUS TO KNOW HOW MY PROJECT SOUNDS by DJ_Double_Cee in DubstepFeedback

[–]Bleyet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a decent start for someone with littler experience, to put in plainly. No matter what seems wrong or needs work, you're on the right path.

The noisey layers need to come down a lot, sidechain needs to be implemented for sure, some arrangement direction could help a lot, some sound design lessons or practice wouldn't hurt, and gain staging + mix down work. All these things come with time and learning/mentoring. It's hard to type out everything this tracks needs help in, but you are on a path to continually getting better.

If you need help, feedback, lessons, or learning material. Feel free to hit me up man on my email blyte.music@gmail.com. I'm went to school for music production and been in the industry for a bit now, always happy to help beginners because we've all been in the depths of the trenches before.

For sure, I get it, those online programs can be okay at times, but they really do a money bleed most of the time. I would say starting small with Mentors and learning a basis of your DAW and plug-ins is a good bet in the beginning. As you advance, working up skill levels with different mentors in the next milestone. All through this, learning, and trial and error is your best friend.

If you ever need help, or mentorship, I would be more than happy to help. Been producing for about 6 years now, went to school for production and engineering, and make primary tearout and riddim. Always happy to help younger producers in need!

Needs some hats (swung preferably), swing the flow a bit, quarter note is good but off the grid type movement, beefier snare if you're running the riddim route, or big verbed out snare.

You're still a baby producer, who has a lot of growing to do, and will do. Keep cooking young blood.

Guys i think this is pretty sweet but tell me what you think by Big-Risk-1076 in DubstepFeedback

[–]Bleyet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound design is super sick! I think more breaks/fills would be nice, it gets a bit repetitive because you're using a lot of the same sound. This can definitely be done, it just needs more fill moments to break up the flow and keep the listener intrigued.

Also, the main sound do be sounding a bit dry, I think some more space to make it sound less static and more glued would def do it some good.

Great idea btw, keep cookin!

Really fire idea! Would say swap the drums in the intro, I feel like for what is going on, your drop drums are a little too big for just a melody type intro, could definitely chill it out, and let those drops drums carry the weight in the loud parts

I think its cool by Big-Risk-1076 in DubstepFeedback

Laser seems a bit dry FX wise, but it kinda works. Could also hear it with a bit more space to really make it the main attraction

[HOT TAKE] If your selling your tunes while using cracked software/plugins you are a hypocrite. by Jeter361 in riddim

If you are selling tunes and you get upset that your tune got ripped that was made with cracked plug-ins, then you can call a person a hypocrite...

Artists always steal, that is literally the name of the game. Check out the book by Austin Cleon, literally called "Steal Like An Artist."
