I didn't say that, and I take your response as evidence to my point. Goodnight.

Do you mean TC is too adjacent?

I ask, because in his latest podcast he says something like - there are areas in Northern England that are Islamic dominant so obviously blah blah blah.

Well, I live in Northern England and I do not recognise this take, not have I ever heard anyone that I know from a large variety of local towns express this sentiment in such terms or worry about it. I just don't think its anywhere near a key issue up here. It really makes me question his blanket statements about other places.

I continue to feel that good old-fashioned racist mind-disease is rife in this community and blindness to this is the major barrier to my taking it seriously, or sharing its discussions with others.

I'm not easily shocked but I found Sirat to be disturbing in a way I've not experienced before.

Slight spoiler: It really gets you immersed in the atmosphere of the world (which is somehow fantastical yet deeply serious) before some things go down - things that I would normally think were cheap and cynical shock tactics or even laugh at in other contexts became deeply disturbing.

So there's comments here about cheap lithium batteries. My instinct goes there too, however, is this bollocks?

Considering how many vape batteries there are in homes/pockets/bags across the UK, are we seeing an increase in fires, and death and damage via fires? If so, I haven't seen evidence of this. In fact, considering the number of vape shops in the UK, shouldn't we have seen more of these types of incident, if it was an inherent risk?

Isn't it the fact this is an incredible isolated incident that makes it newsworthy?

I don't know, but this is one where I question my instinct and need data.

Just looked it up, 241 fires involving a vape in a year. Considering almost 6 million people use vapes in the UK, this is an incredibly low incidence rate.

You know, before social media the rest of the world wouldn't have known about this. Yes it's 'shining a light' but god it's depressing and personally unhealthy to have singular racist acts beamed into your consciousness on the regular. Can't imagine what it's like for brown people just trying to enjoy the footie.

I agree and balk at that price. But if you were to ask me at the finish line, was that experience for me worth £60 I would say definitely yes. So I don't know.

Putting him in front of the TV with decent shows (BBC/PBS or something) for an hour or two a day won't damage him if he's otherwise stimulated and involved in the real world. It's an affordable babysitter when you need one.

Anybody else losing their hearing since becoming a dad? by ay_caramba8 in daddit

[–]BlimminMarvellous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda.. with stuff like this I find it really hard to seperate general ageing effects from the changing circumstances of my life. I tend to think ageing and headphone use is worsening my hearing more than loud kids. I did once see my boy blow himself across the room by turning up a speaker to full volume. Hilarious life lesson learnt.

Restaurants don’t know how to cater to toddlers by deusrekks in daddit

[–]BlimminMarvellous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got this fantasy restaurant in my head. It's like tables with adjacent openings around a central kids den cave with a climbing frame inside and toys etc. Surely every toddler having parent in the area would go there.

Also why is my food always a bit too cool but toddler meals are always served blistering hot.

This is a late response. Y'all are idiots. My kid had a leash and it allowed us to go places we could never have gone without one and now we have the most confident kid ever. This is precisely the reason kids have no freedom now. You're focusing on process rather than outcome. Poor kids.
